Writing will only get you so far. If you think you can just write and then click the publish key and you’re done and the money will come rolling in...well that would be nice. Who honestly would think that you ask? You may be surprised who do. Writing up your article or your novel is just the half of it and the easy part. After that comes basically selling yourself.

 Book Writing

That gem of a novel you wrote through blood sweat and tears and years upon years you finally finished it and what a relief now you think all the hard work is done, but it's only your beginning as you enter into a new world and that is the world of publishing. This is also where you check your ego at the door. You got to be self assured, but not too much that it is a put off. Also know what you’re talking about and know the business. This will put you in a little bit of an advantage for you will know what the publishers/agents want and are looking for. It is a tough business and to know a bit about this business can save you or break you. To learn more check out Rebecca E  and Immartin hubs on Publishing, for they give it to you straight and hardcore. Publishing is pretty much promoting and pitching yourself. If you self publish you are going to have to self promote yourself no matter what. Seriously writing the novel IS the easy part.

 Article Writing

So now you have written that article and you clicked publish so now you can sit back and relax right? That would be wrong, sure your followers will come and read your stuff, but you want more right? You know increasing your traffic are important right? You see your stats and your Google Ad Sense and you see nothing, then go well why? Well the traffic is not going to come on its own and you got to work for it. Promote your new articles where ever you can use every tool out there to help boost traffic. With that you may be lucky and someone may click on a Google ad and earn you some money. Yes my friend even though you try your hardest you still come back with slim pickings, to a writer though those slim pickings are golden to us. There is something else I have discovered and that is to learn about writing a good sound bite. Just pasting the first few lines of the article can work, but really is it an attention grabber? I usually write a little sound bite to tease the reader in what the article is about in hopes that they will want to click it and read it, not only does the title have to grab, but also with the little descriptions of what the article is about to make the reader want to actually click on it and read.

 My Experience

To be honest I did hope that people would just come and flock to my articles and money would come rolling in. I know though that is not the case. I grumbled a bit for I did not want to self promote myself, but if I wanted to be writer it comes with the territory. I realized just writing alone does not cover it. I can write and write, but if I do not do anything with it I’m not going to make anything. That is why I sometimes take a day off from writing to promote my past articles more. No one is going to push and promote me better than myself. My evenings I usually take time to catch up on reading for I am myself still educating me. Have I discovered the life of a writer? Write, Read, Promote is that the key to success? Write on my friends!
