You Gave Me Three Roses

Updated on November 10, 2012

A Poem About Real Love

You gave me three roses;

Pink petals opening their hearts.

Little buds wrapped in a green blanket

Emerging from their crystal home.

A beautiful surprise

And I was startled

By your thoughtfulness.

You were the first to think me worthy

Of such a gift.

The gift of three pink roses

A simple gesture

Overflowing with meaning.

On that day I felt

Like I was a princess.

Your princess.

You gave me three roses

Twenty years ago.

When I look at you each morning,

I think about your gift.

The gift of three pink roses

In a glass vase

Sitting high on a ledge

For the world to see

For the world to hear you say

"I love you."
