You Take My Eyes
Between earth and numinous night
I found eyes that were forgotten,
folded away in the darkest part of me--
eyes that saw the earth pine from loneliness
that knew its swell and its birthing
in the warmth of salt and brine.
Eyes that knew death
and its solace.
They know, these eyes,
that this movement from dark to light
Is but an instant in passing, a surrender,
a glimmer in the night.
They are my gift to you
this conduit of souls.
I ask only that you lie with me
in the passing.
