Your Original Life's Story
Telling Your Story:
Rule 1
What you write must be a realistic account. It must be believable! It must stand out as you and you alone. It must be about your life and your story. Sure, we are all distinctly different; but what about those small but describable differences? What is the anchor point of your life and story? What of the background, the time setting, and the unfolding of its events? How did you come to be? Who are your progenitors? Is there a purpose that cannot be seen by the natural eye, or drama that simply has to be told? Is there an urgency, or passion to convey to a greater audience? Is this an undertaking that is driven by a disaster, or unfortunate life occurrence?
Rule 2
There is a reason you want your story told! You must be willing to share it and preserve it for others to know! Is there a historical value, or social strategy achieved by it being told now? Will other's appreciate the telling of it, or dread it, is there no other choice but to tell it? Will silence be the keeper of its secrets, or shall it be heralded to all, far and wide? Do you foresee that others will be kind when they read it, or angry and violent, because they are effected by it? - All these are questions that weigh upon the writer and the decision to write, and whether to to write in a personal or non-personal manner. Do you intend to name the actual characters, or leave them in pseudo type or use anonymous names?
Rule 3
Tell us who you are! This is the crucible of revelation, of who you really are. It the crux of the matter, and the acid test of your belief in yourself. Will you stand or withstand the outcome of truth as you record the plot and the affairs you are about to undertake? - or will you bend and maybe break under the scalpel of truth? This is the moment of recognition, the dawning of the day after you have written and published something about yourself, or your belief's. This printed saga may tell us who you are better than a well brushed portrait on a gilded frame.
Rule 4
Tell us what you have done! Tell us the miracle of your existence. Have you any accomplishments? Have you done something grand such as climbed a mountain, or something more domestic such as designed your own home? ? Were you suddenly and unexpectedly thrown into a virtual vortex where against all choice of yours you become a hero, or adventurer, and now have exciting things to tell? Indeed, what did you sign up for in this life-of-Riley that you live? Did you discover a new culture and civilization that is waiting for you to reveal its progress, and where-bouts? Remember this, “all it takes for a person to succeed, is to become the source or the answer to a problem that others are seeking”.
Rule 5
Tell us what you intend to do before it is over! Given the preceding statements and the questions, what do you intend to gain by this disclosure of information? What price or payment do you expect to receive for your troubles? Are you motive free? Is this great exposition supposed to open doors that will allow you access to future opportunity? Are you going out with a fizz, and leaving us just one expose' of your knowledge without us having hope for more? We ask you, leave us dreaming, and make us feel like we know you and please keep us enthralled. We are expecting you to come back to us with more of yourself. Let us believe in your infallibility. As was said of George Washington, "the bullets went though his coat but he had no wounds at the end of the battle". Well, and if there are wounds to show us, then bloody well tell us! Its the stuff that good writing is made of!
conclusion;
These are guidelines to telling us your original story, given by an original author, with intent to fire up the coals within the heart and hearth of journalism. Is this for you? Then embrace it! Be objective in writing your story.
