_-Surrender-_

Updated on September 8, 2013
Source

Last night…

I watched her die

and she sits by my side

staring into hopelessness

…but her dress is still pretty

and I am dead too

sitting here

among our empty cans

and the bathtub is now dry

and we both take a deep sigh

as the orange glow

from the fire beyond the window

reflects off our defeated faces

…and the polished barrel

of my rifle

that rests across our laps

as we listen to the axes

taking out the last chunks

of the boarded up door

of my home sweet home

Wow. Not sure what to say to this. It keeps me on the edge, yet it is hauntingly beautiful, too.

I love reading poetry that leaves the reader to fill the gaps, and this does this very well. Great read Wayne thank you :-))

Tragic but interesting. You spun an intriguing web that left a lot of questions.

Being together with your significant other is very important to you, no matter what is dished out to you. I applause your beliefs.

Haunting. What came to mind was the old Bette Davis movie Hush, hush Sweet Charlotte.

Eviction and poverty of an honest, hard-working couple in their golden years, on the day of being ousted from their farmstead perhaps? Just an educated guess, but an interesting write Wayne.

      Best Wishes,
