A Poem About Integrity

Updated on August 25, 2018

When asked to do something that you know is wrong, what path do you take?

With a question like that, where is he going? What path does he wish us to follow? The common path or the road less taken? The first thing that I am going to bring up is the movie Courageous. This question is being raised several times in this film. The character that I am referring to had a choice on his job. There was a new position in management and he would have to lie for on the paper work. He could think about this overnight and give his answer in the morning. When he came in to talk to his boss he told him that he could not take the job. The request placed before him was wrong. He would not lie and and was willing to take the consequences of losing his job. Because of this the position was his. This was a test, of his "Integrity" and what he was willing to stand up for. As a side note as soon as the movie was available I purchased both the DVD and the soundtrack.

A few years ago there was a new assignment at work. Each person had to write one paragraph on what they felt "Integrity is...". Some people just copied the definition from the dictionary. Though easy it was not expressing what they felt it was. Others would only write one or two lines and turn it in with a here you go, I did my part. Some would wait until the last minute and then type away...

But was that showing "Integrity"? According to them it was. For they had done that which was of them. But with "Integrity" comes more that doing what's placed before you. "Integrity" in my eyes means to continue to do more.

When asked to carry the burden one mile you go two - Mathew 5:41.

Integrity Is...

Integrity is...

The morals that start your day

The ethics that take you step by step

The soundness from which your decisions come

And the completeness you feel at the end of the day

Integrity is

Honesty that comes from with-in

As your actions also reflect you

Like the faith of a mustard seed

Your honesty will also help you grow

Integrity is

Virtues that work through you

Values that are with you at all times

Consistency of you projecting forth

To be all that He has made of you

Integrity is

A steadfast feeling of going forth

Doing what's right in His eyes

For He is the one leading the way

Showing you what integrity is

Nice poem that tells us what integrity is made from. The truth is what makes good morals in people. We all know right from wrong, it is our choice.

You are welcome, I did learn from it..... Never really sat down and thought what integrity meant. Not really a word I use much, but maybe I will now I have a better understanding of the word.

      yes...me too!

Maybe that's why it's not traveled much: they're not wearing comfortable shoes ;)

Although if it were it couldn't be the road less traveled. LOL!

      Have a good day ;)

Jo Harley - Nice to see you have someone to have long discussions with. Even better to know those discussions help the love in your life be rekindled. And if this is one of those subjects that will spark a discussion I am glad to have brought it forth. With that being said if Integrity is the 'road less traveled' I do have comfortable shoes and am ready to head down that path.

Excellent! Only had one question ... from my personal experience I always talk about those who chose your version of integrity as the 'road less traveled' because fewer make that choice than otherwise but I've learned that I have the same perspective as many and use different words to express myself therefore making it sound like it's different when it's actually not. . .my man and I can discuss in great length only to find that we both were talking about the same thing from the same perspective the whole time!!! LOL and it's kinda made me fall in love with him all over again and I'll purposely bring up controversial subjects to discuss just to watch it happen all over again :):):)

@EnthusiasmMadame: If that were the case you wouldn't have people like me sharing things about "Integrity". It was the first thing that I posted and still in the top five after two years. There have also been others that have asked if they could use this poem while giving me credit. That in its self shows "Integrity". I grew up on a lake and have never been afraid to rock the boat. And that is not just on the water. So if you need to print out the poem or just save the words as encouragement please do so.I would never have shared them if I didn't wish that they be shared. And if you do please let me know.

This is great stuff and a wonderful reminder. I had a discussion with someone the other day about integrity becoming lost at some point. What do you think? Is integrity going to be a lost art, replaced by a world full of people who do things just so they won't "rock the boat"? I certainly hope not.

Integrity can seem like it is so far removed from your goals. But integrity, like so many positive values, has a timing sequence of its own in the infinite space. The rewards come at a time when you least expect or can plan for. I've seen it happen over 60 years. Some of the things that have happened in my life are consequences of integrity or lack there of(when I didn't know any better). Trust integrity: it's a compass.
