A Review of The Complete Sherlock Holmes

Updated on March 9, 2015

A Little History:

Looking back my first memories of Sherlock Holmes were in books. Not kid books mind you but ones that were aimed towards adults. The Hound of the Baskervilles to be exact. I will admit it took me a while to get through. Always having to look up words was not that easy. But well worth the time.

Later I discovered Sherlock Holmes on VHS tapes. The old hour long shows were available to me. Filmed in black and white. And still in my collection. Follow that up with old radio programs. Just hearing the adventures helped the imagination to start working. There are some Sherlock Holmes that I have on DVD as well and more than one book in my collection. As you can tell Sherlock Holmes has kept my attention for many years in many formats.

About This Book

My son who does not like school or to a certain extent reading actually picked this one up and read it. And trust me this is not a light read. There are many adventures and many pages to get through. One of the saving graces is the pictures that are included with this novel. With my son (now 15) he was actually interested in the stories. And even though it took him a while to get through he did not give up. Like me it took a while to get through the book but it was well worth it. It gave us something to talk about.

Also like the radio programs and movies reading gives you a chance to think. In this case like most mysteries a chance to think ahead. To try to figure out the story before it ended. Most of these mysteries we both did not figure out till the end. However he got more of them then I did. Not sure if he remembers this or not but giving credit where credit is due.

Books in our family are one of those things that we look forward to. Although the rate at which I read has slowed down. My love of reading has not. There are certain books that I will pick up and read more than once. Though they are few Sherlock Holmes is one of them.

As much fun as reading Sherlock Holmes is... There are other ways you can take in the mystery of it all. I have chosen three items that I know I have enjoyed. And it may sound corny but I hope that you do to.

Yes I enjoy cartoons. And this one though directed at a younger audience still made me think.

Here is one of the episodes from Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century.

Even though Sherlock Holmes is the main character I like Watson better. How about you?

To partially quote Mr. Holmes - Leaving a comment is elementary my dear Watson.

@SusanM17: As you say it is unique. And if it wasn't unique would be as much fun and enjoyable to read?

Love this review! Sherlock is definitely an interesting character. Even though the writing is a bit tricky, it's still very unique and interesting.
