And The Beat Goes On. (but why?)

Updated on November 8, 2012

When you feel your heartache is visible

She finally rises up from her bed

after having an argument inside her head,

Then walks to the bathroom and splashes her face,

Wondering why........

And the beat goes on.......

Her breakfast is tiny, she uses no plate,

then stares out the window, surveying the place..

Her day will be lonely if housebound she stays,

So thinking of choices she´s planning her days

And the beat goes on......

Her closet is filled with clothes now too big,

But sadly, the truth is , she gives not a fig,

of how she will look, or what she will wear.

Yet the beat goes on..........

The pain in her heart at the loss of her love,

has deadened the beautiful girl she once was.,

And she wonders why, as all of us do,

How life can continue when the victim is YOU.

And the beat goes on..........

She thinks every person can see all her pain,

Don´t they know that life, now is never the same?

She can´t understand,

WHY?

The beat goes on........

But it does go on,

The traffic is flowing, like any day,

People are busy, rushing their way,

Yet she feels so empty,

Life surely is over,

Has the world not stopped turning?

Apparently not.

The Beat Goes On.......

oh, this probably wasn't the best day to read this! if it were written in ink - it'd be all smudgy right now! And the beat goes on - the trick is to appreciate what we have - even if it's only that the beat goes on! where there's beat - there's hope! beautiful!

Dim -- Your poem will no doubt touch the hearts of many as it has mine. For lack of better words "been there/done that" not once but several occasions. Excellent, my dear and thank you for sharing with us. Positively voted up! Best/Sis

Very beautiful poem. The heartache does hurt so much more when you look around and the world continues on like it doesn't care - I think you have expressed this feeling and so much more in this wonderful piece of work!

Hi Deborah Brooks, Thank you for reading and commenting.

I guess we have all had times like this.

We feel as though we are wearing a sign on our foreheads , yet nobody is taking any notice of it. Life carries on....... Which of course it does in reality.

Hi Dim...well, you have surely described deepn depression and a feeling that one cannot go on...it is a struggle. And, when we have sustained a loss or personal devastation; it does seem as if something..something should be altered; changed. It is almost unbelievable that life continues on as if nothing of monumental significance has happened. I've certainly felt this...'how can the sun rise and set, how can life go on as if nothing has happened?' But...it does. You've shared with us a very sensitive look into personal bewilderment and confusion....thank God, mostly, we come out of it and grow to love life again. Really beautifully described Dim..UP Beautiful Awesome Useful. Kathy

How sad, I could fee the pain between the written verse. I know of it myself and yet the beat goes on. We change in so many ways throughout our lives both mentally and physically. Look at the beauties that appeared on the stage of life and now looking in a mirror are mere shadows of themselves.

Yet their beat goes on. The trick is to keep a loving heart and soul, no matter how the gravity may pull on our physique. Looks and appearance can never dictate our true identity as a fellow of our human race. Peace be with you my sweet lady, keep the faith and never fret over what you were, accept WHO you are, a loving, kind and inspirational soul.
