another drink of water

ocfireflies is a retired teacher. She graduated from Appalachian State University with a B.S. in English/Secondary Education.

All eyes begin to slowly see…

You take my hand.

Push yourself closer into me.

***************

I tease,

Uncurl and yawn

As if nothing is you!

*************

Steam builds up

every mouth

needs another drink of water!

***************

You extend your hand;

I place my hand in yours.

You pull me back in!

**************************

Not too close,

Not too far either

As we begin the trance-

***************

Steam builds up

every mouth

needs another drink of water!

**********************

No longer aware

Of any eyes but our own,

You twirl me into your spool of yarn.

***********************

Spinning me around the room:

One hand braided into one-

The other a whisper on my neck.

************************

Steam builds up

every mouth

needs another drink of water!

****************************

Tingling now I can’t resist

As your lips touch mine;

Our bodies melt into one.

**************************************

Room continues to spin-

never want this to end-

together we dance...

      KIM'S FRESHER GLASS OF WATER

      AN AMERICAN SONNET

It's awesome, beautiful, and int'resting, no doubt,

but useful too, and funny, some would also shout.

      Is love a game, a sport, a dance, . . . or exercise?

Or homely business down-to-earth as some surmise?

Is love a tease uncurling, yawning toward a fake surprise,

or is it all a trance where all that matters does not matter,

and all our past illusions -- and delusions -- start to shatter,

with all inducements of the world reduced to clitter-clatter?

What whirling, twirling two . . . into one spool of yarn invites,

the sacred spinning dance . . . of tingling, touching lips unites.

Our Kim includes it all . . . in her pan-optic poetry

and takes us step-by-step . . . to build up steam in you and me.

But why omit the calming drink-of-water chorus after climax

and leave the manic men on fire and women weeping in their Kleenex?

When love's hot steam explodes like that it might not seem to matter,

but that's when everyone most needs Kim's fresher glass of water.

No offense, Kim, but this work is so true and beautiful

and so compelling, I could not resist the chance to pull

and interact with you and have poetic fun with it,

while hopefully not misconstruing even one sweet word of it.

Your poetry improves with each new literary venture,

transporting readers to your magic world of new adventure.

      Continued best wishes.

      Max,

Your poem does "raise" an excellent "point." One of which I thought about, but decided maybe too "hot." How could offense be taken when you took my words and kept them baking?

      wetnosedogs,

Thank you for calling my poem "awesome and dreamy." Thank you for like the ending.

      Faith,

I am glad you liked the imagery, and I am so very grateful for the vote and share. I'm so glad you checked out the video. That dance scene is one of my favorite Addams Family movie moments.

      Martin,

Arlene sound like a very patient lady, and I am glad you were such a good student. Smiles.

How wonderful to start my day with such great comments. Thanks to all of you for reading my work.

Yes, Suzette Naples, new to our rich company,

with your rich words to Kim, I think we all agree.

      ---

Kim, finding good in many loves is hard to see.

They say that every love is one part mystery,

and one part ecstasy, and one part misery,

and one part history, and one part destiny,

des-crip-tions fin-al-ly submerging it at sea.

While clever poetry describing it gets hotter,

I think I also need another drink of water!

      Suzette,

Thank you so much for checking this one out. I appreciate your kind comments.

      Max,

If it is snowing in Chicago, a cup of hot chocolate may taste better than a drink of water. I hope you are staying warm.

Wishing all a warm and wonderful week,
