Break Up Poem - Fortune and My Lover

Updated on October 10, 2011

Break up Poem "Fortune and My Lover"

Man and I are sweethearts, he desires me and I long for him,

Suddenly has appeared a rival which brings us misery,

She is wicked and yet demanding, possessing empty lure,

Her name is FORTUNE.

She is always present wherever we go, and watches like a sentinel

Inflecting restlessness on my lover.

I inquire for my beloved in the forest, under the trees, by the lakes

And all the places we would meet, No where he cannot be found.

For lo FORTUNE has spirited him to the clamorous city

And place him on a throne of earthly riches.

I call for him with the voice he knew, a song of love and wisdom.

But he does not hearken, behold fortune has enticed him into a pit of selfishness,

Into extreme greed for riches.

I seek him in the ocean of contentment,

But I see me alone.

His greed for riches has imprisoned him

And locked him up in a world full of painful chains of gold.

I call to him at dawn, when nature smiles, but he does not hear,

For excess has laden his eyes with sick slumber,

I call again because I long for him,

But still there was no answer.

For his fear over what the morrow will bring shadows his every thought.

He yearns to love and embrace me,

He ask for me even in his selfish acts.

If he desire finding me, it must be true righteous acts.

He seeks me in the edifices of his glory,

Which he has built upon the blood and suffering of men,

I can hear his whispers to me from among his heaps of gold, diamonds, silver and pearls,

But he will only find me by the river of sincerity and by the way of simplicity just as God unfold.

He desire to kiss my lips before his wealth,

But his lips will never touch mines,

Except in the richness of unadulterated love.

He ask me to live with him and share his wondrous wealth,

But I will never abandon God's fortune,

By accepting his way of accomplishing earthly wealth.

I will not for any cast off my cloak of beauty.

He seeks deceit and fame,

I seek only a pure heart.

He bruises his heart in his evil cell,

I wish to enrich his heart with all my love.

My beloved has learn how to cry for FORTUNE,

I want to teach him how to shed tears of joy and affection,

I want to bring peace to his soul.

Man is my lover, I want to belong to him,

But until he let go of all ungodly acts

He will never get this righteous woman back.
