Updated on December 26, 2013

How to Organize your Content for Publishing

Applying a pattern to your content , helps to rhythm to your content .It makes reading exciting and is one of the many ways to hold your reader from beginning to the end . You can also develop interesting articles by applying the ideas on how to organize and arrange your ideas very well .

Selecting an appropriate pattern for your content , largely depends on the topic that you wish to discuss and the length of the article in general . An appropriate pattern could also be chosen for your content depending on the target readers and the platform or article directory you are publishing , Each pattern of arrangement has it's own advantages and disadvantages .Here are some few patterns that you can also use and some ideas on how to arrange some particular topics .

First of all , you might begin your composition with a general statement ( thesis) and proceed to examples or details that support or clarify that thesis . If your composition describes something, you may lead up to your strongest impression or begin with that impression and make connections to other impressions or ideas

You could choose to arrange your ideas and examples step by step from the most important to the less important. This pattern of arrangement is very good and works well for very lengthy articles - where you will need to capture the attention of the reader in the early stages of the article and carry them through up to the end .

Beginning with the most important ideas then explaining down to the the less important , will help you gain the readers attention at the beginning .

You could also choose to arrange the ideas from the less important to the most important. Or arrange examples from the less important to the most important. This works with shorter scripts or articles that are not too long or one that reader is more likely to finish reading. In such scripts or when such pattern used , the reading gets exciting as he reads on or as he digs deep into the content . The idea is to keep the reader in suspense up till the end . You can also begin with specific point and work toward a general principle that explains them .

You may decide to compare one idea with another and then develop an argument by first stating your own position and answering opposing arguments. You can also reverse the order

If your topic or your contents , deals with a narrative or a process , you will probably do best with chronological arrangment . Arrange your ideas in order of the time of event happenings .

You may argue from the result of something to its causes. Or from its causes to its results] . Especially when you are writing about a health topic, the appropriate pattern that you will need to use to organize your article is: symptoms- causes-effects arrangements .

Advantages and disadvantages pattern is used for organizing topics on products. Such pattern is also good for products description in which an objective voice is required. Or when two or more products are being compared..

Food and recipe topic . When writing about food and recipes , you would do with the ingredient and method format . That is you start by listing the ingredients needed and then you move on to your method of preparation .

As most professional writers do , you could also make your article exciting to read by merging two or more of these arrangements patterns of organizations - especially hen you are writing about two or more topics or when you have merged more than two topics into one article.

Choosing an appropriate pattern makes your article easy to read . It also makes the content look visually attractive and this makes the content less boring but rather exciting to read .
