Daniel's Gift by Barbara Freethy

Updated on November 9, 2017

Daniel's Gift

Daniel's Gift is a very heartwarming story of a mother-son relationship and an intense wish to know his father. The endearing characters and a beautiful, spiritual story-line makes for a wonderful, inspiring and heartwarming read. This is the first book I read from Barbara Freethy. Since then I have read more stories by Barbara Freethy and haven't been disappointed. She writes very well and the story-lines flow nicely to keep me interested. She has become one of my favorite authors.

Kindle Reading

I read Daniel's Gift on my Amazon Kindle smart-phone app. At the time I didn't own a Kindle yet so to me it was the next best thing. I loved that my phone was so handy to just pull out of my purse and read wherever I was at. I read it in on break at lot when I worked at a library. Everyone I worked with thought it was pretty neat I read it on my phone. At least I could make the words a bigger font to read more smoothly than squinting at little words.

I just have to say I am partial to Daniel's Gift since it was my first book I read. The next that took my heart by storm is the Calloway series. I totally and highly recommend both.

Excerpt From Daniel's Gift Back Cover

"Years later it is tragedy that reunites them the father whom a son longs to know, and the mother who has tried desperately to forget. And as Luke and Jenny struggle to ignore the pain and desire reborn in a look and a touch, only the remarkable courage of a young boy and the help of a rather unorthodox guardian angel can offer them the most precious gift of all: a second chance at the love of a lifetime."

RITA Award Winner

In 1996, Daniel's Gift was the winner for Best Contemporary Romance from the Romance Writers of America. I'm sure Barbara Freethy as the author of this book felt honored to receive this award.

It's so exciting to of found out that Daniel's Gift won this award since it was the first book I read. Oh how I loved that book and could read it again.

This award recognizes outstanding romance novels and novellas. This gold statuette is the symbol for excellence in published romance fiction. It is named after Rita Clay Estrada the RWA's first president.

Excerpt from Barbara Freethy

"DANIEL'S GIFT was my first breakout book. The story of a young boy who wants to meet his biological father but gets in an accident along the way, touched many readers. I wrote the story after my 13-year-old niece died from a sudden illness and I had done some reading about near-death experiences in children. I think I had an angel on my shoulder when I wrote that book. It went on to win the RITA for Best Contemporary Romance and was optioned for a TV movie. (It didn't get made but maybe someday)."

I think that if Daniel's Gift would of turned in to a movie I'm sure it would of been a big hit. I'm sure I'd have shed some tears as I did a little while reading the book
