Dear Grandchild of Mine
Never Be Afraid to Take the Lead
Seems to me - a good place to start!
When someone's represented as, and referred to as, a "born leader", it is, without a doubt, one of the highest forms of praise. A compliment reserved for a select few. It carries a lot of weight, but it also (especially in more recent years) gets a bad rap, for others may see it as exclusionary & unfair!
Over time, we have, progressively, given a lot of good things, a bad rap! As a result, many individuals never reach their true potential. They fear being stereotyped as over-achievers.
Accused of walking over people to get ahead....
If you are already out front, who is it that you would be walking over, exactly?
It is a shame that so many people are hesitant to take the lead out of a fear of what others might say about them.
That's the first thing, grandchild of mine, don't fear, just do... then from there, do your absolute best!
Doing your best has nothing whatsoever to do with perfection in all things, in all tasks, in all goals, etc.
There are many parts to human nature; we continually learn, we strive, we excel, but we also stumble now and then. Occasionally, we fall, but how the next chapter in our life goes, is determined by how we respond to the stumbles and falls.
It really is that simple.
That's where the tests and challenges of life come in, often in the most trying situations, maturity is built and character develops.
Satisfaction comes within our journey to the summit, so to speak.
We may even take a detour or two on the way up, and that's fine too!
Finding our niche, where we belong, our place in this world, has a different time table and a different road map for each of us.
Give your climb, time!
More importantly, give it a chance!
Live Large
Have fun along the way! Yes, naturally, if you are headed for a true summit, cautiously watch your step, but on the more laid back chill days, savor every moment, don't hesitate to be goofy and to laugh out loud!
I don' think that I laugh out loud as often as I did in my youth or as much as I did as a young parent.
I will work on that in this season of my life!
You can start working on it now!
Keep your old friends, but never stop making new ones.
Get involved, do for others, know what you believe in and why?
Never go along to get along.
Don't just take a picture of a sunrise or a sunset, experience it. Understand the significance of a new day dawning, a blank canvas at your disposal, versus a day for the books, one and done, no do-overs...
Did you make it count?
Don't let anyone hold you back...
Unless the one doing the holding, is a loved one who has your best interest at heart.
Always listen to, and go with your gut; not the crowd, not the deceiving glittery things, not the bandwagon!
My Prayer
My prayer isn't for your success, it is for your happiness! If along the way you experience both, that's a-okay by me!
Back to that leadership thing, where I started this --- up front is where I see you, grandchild of mine.
Cutting a trail, leading the way... not just leading, but setting an example, truly making a difference.
My prayer isn't for you to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders, but rather that you will stay grounded in your faith. Reliant on the one who has already carried the weight of the world on his!
That is not on you, grandchild of mine....
I am one blessed lady, and so proud of each and every one of you. So proud of your Parents. Each one of you, so very precious to me!
From baby girl expected soon to non-stop Miss Busy Britches toddling around. From the twin baby girls nearing Pre-K age already, to my smart and athletic grandsons on through to the middle-schooler who first called me, "Gramma"!
I wish that I could tell you all that life will be a cinch, a constant summer vacation without strife, but that would be wrong of me.
Life can be tough at times, and we all go through seasons which challenge us to our very core! But don't give up, press on, and, hopefully, (with God's grace) you will be made stronger by it!
My prayer is to be here for some time, spoiling you all with every chance that I get, and sharing stories, as Grandparent's have license to do!
Come what may, whatever God's plan, I love you, grandchild of mine, more than you can possibly know.....
