Even the phoenix

burst into flames

before rising

from its ashes

we are taught

to fear hell

in an effort

to control our will

forgetting that Jesus

descended the abyss

before rising again

and so, too, did Inanna

descend to the underworld

a being of life

dying to be reborn

sometimes we must

destroy our selves

before we can arise

from the ashes
