For Teens, JRR Tolkien is a Hard Hobbit to Break

Updated on August 30, 2017

And sometimes harder for parents to shop for

That's why I created this page for you. It lists several different videos associated with the Hobbit and the Lord of The Rings.

When I was young it took me three tries before I could get past page one of the Hobbit. My daughter daughter burned through the wholes series in less than a week. This was before she did a project for her home schooling in high school.

So if interests you then please continue further down this page to see what is available for the elf lovers out there. Weather it is reading, listening or watching you will find a little something here to catch your attention.

With the main image scanned in. There were two parts that were not. To access those location use these links.

Gollum

JRR Tolkien

After many years I found out what JRR Tolkien full name is - John Ronald Reuel Tolkien. Its interesting that it never occurred to me to that those letters might just have words associated with them.

Unlike my daughter I have only read The Hobbit.

That's right the dad who likes to read took three times to get past the first page of this book. It was nice sitting on the front porch and looking out at the lake while reading. The last time I had done that was reading The Little Prince. (Although this time I took time to go swimming instead of wanting to finish the whole book.)

Here are the first four books from the Middle Earth collection.

J.R.R. Tolkien 4-Book Boxed Set: The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings

I do realize that there are more books in this collection but getting through the main story is the goal that I had set for the daughter. It wasn't much of one considering how she burned through them all. I realize that the listing above does not show all four books so I will list them here as well. 1) The Hobbit 2) The Fellowship OF The Ring 3) The Two Towers 4) The Return Of The King

Lord of the Rings Trilogy

There are three different videos in this section. Each one listed we own. The interesting thing is that we have all three. A friend got married and he and his wife each had the first two on DVD. This was the four disk set. Cool. This meant that we only had to buy the third set. They are the ones listed below. Now to reach over and get the videos and share them with you.

The first three movies on Blue-Ray

The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy (Extended Edition Blu-ray)
The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy (Extended Edition Blu-ray)
We have this in a different format. When they were first released they were by the movie. Each one was the movie on two disks and each had two more disks of Behind the Movie making Material. The daughter enjoyed the movies and the wife the bonus material. But now here are all three movies and the bonus material in one package. So an easy way to get everything in one package, just like the books above.

But wait there's more

That's right the movies continue. I admit I haven't seen any of the new ones yet. But the trailers are here just in cause you would like a little teaser.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

Animated version available on Amazon

We still have two out of the three on on VHS. No player that works though. There are a couple of movies on VHS that I have gotten on DVD and these may be part of that collection.

To be honest I found the first one on DVD and the Library the other day. And yes its now in the daughter's collection. Only two more to go.

All three J.R.R. Tolkien animated movies in one package

Yes world I remember seeing these when they were first on. And add to that it was a cartoon that was not on Saturday morning. Prime time meant that it must be worth watching. And for someone that still likes cartoons it is still worth watching.

The Hobbit

Lord of the Rings

The Return of the King

What's that you say, a parody...

Yes Veggie Tales is a great one for the parody. Or more to the point, they take stories and change them to help teach God's word to children. And for the adults they too may walk away with a little bit more understanding.

In this case the folks from Big Idea have taken the Hobbits story to another level. One that will help those watching to "Use Their Gifts". First to discover their gifts then to use them.

And of course this is one in our collection.

This is not a direct tie in but its still fun to watch. Its from VeggieTales Lord of the Beans.

Curiosity strikes again

Which would you rather do?

Happy Gollum

For all of you who have enjoyed the series we now have a happy Gollum.
