    He's kind of both.  I feel bad for him.  I only saw the "O" version with Julia Stiles, but I remember feeling sorry for him because he was played by that idiot.  It could have happened to a lot of men.

      A tragic hero whose fatal flaw and eventual downfall was jealousy and his inability to trust Desdemona, which enabled Iago to manipulate him. The full title of the play is  The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice.
