golden memories
While we were creating memories !!!!!!!
The childhood days are the times everybody miss a lot. We never felt the value of those golden days when actually we were growing through. When the time is already over and life becomes so serious and filled with responsibilities then one fine day we wake up and there is this miserable feel of longings for those carefree days. But then time never ever waits anyone. Then may be many of us felt the urge to grow up fast so that we would not be overseen by the grown ups. Alas…now the regrets but we can do nothing about it ! As nature and life has been set in a very special auto mode and it just moves on. Now we the grown ups are left with only some very adorable memories to cherish for the lifetime.
In this page I would like to unwind and relive those memories of my childhood passed among so wonderful friends and families. I hope many will be encouraged to walk the paths of childhood memories and be happy for a little while.
I have been brought up in a small town of Digboi which is situated in the state of Assam of North East India. Digboi is the first refinery in Asia and it’s an industrial town. It has got a very British touch everywhere for it was founded by them. The individual chung bunglows surrounded by seasonal flower gardens set on single hilltops with big tree lined zigzag roads are the refreshing memories that comes first to mind always when I think about DIGBOI. The roads were very clean and all set like some ribbons curved along the hills which unfold to a different breathtaking beauty at every other curve. Another side of the town is set at plains which has feel of just another little town in the state. But the hilly areas with natural lakes are the main appeal about the small place.
There are many schools in Digboi and I had passed out from Sowmer Vidyapith HS School. The school is just nearby my home. There I met my best friends while I was in class IV. Generally people have one best friend but I have two as they are twin. We celebrated silver jubilee of our friendship. It is fun in some other style now as we do not stay in the same place. Then what are the uses of mobile phone and sms facilities? We are very much in contact all through but I terribly miss those happy-go-lucky days we spent together. Their names are Sonali Das and Rupali Das…..my identical twin best of bestest friends. I have other friends also who are very close. But best friends are the ones who know you from the origin and always there for you especially when nobody is around.
We used to roam around in the beautiful roads of our beloved town on our bicycles a lot. After school, during every possible weekend and during holidays it was our time to cycle around and having fun. I had a red hero bicycle (for girls) and my friends had one red and one maroon color bicycles which were quite in uses at that time. Now bicycles a rare scene as Scooters/Scooties are more popular. But in our time we used to ride bicycles all the time to everywhere. In the sun and in rain we just used to have our umbrellas and our cycles and we are ready to move. But I do remember very nicely that me and my friends only used to carry umbrellas during rain as we were not bothered about the sun burn that time !
It was the loveliest memory of cycling around the curved and picturesque roads of the town with friends. But I used to be a loner from very early stage of life. I used to enjoy loneliness as well and so I even used to enjoy roaming around alone in the sun and sometimes even in the rain. Anyway I used to love a lot to peep the bluest sky through the big Golmohar trees full of bright colorful flowers. During a light drizzle we used to love cycling around. Then the festivals were the special occasions of our rendezvous to pass through out the occasion together. All the family members used to roam around till late at night in the Jeep even to nearby places of Digboi and it was really such fun. Mainly Diwali and Durga puja were the best festivals. Lots of new dresses, the pre-festival preparations, lots of mouth watering foods, late night gossiping were the routine activities during those celebrations. We used to stay over night in each others place for during the whole festival periods. Most of the festivals we used to do that.
There were numerous nights we used to pass talking about our favorite film stars and so many things. So many things are coming to my mind in bits and pieces which we used to talk about. Then there were quiz competitions we used to take part. And it was really fun as we used to fight a lot with other groups. Uncle, Aunty and their elder sister, Chandrima Das( Mamoni ba for me) used to really bear my all odd habits. I was very bad in my eating habits. Aunty and Mamoni ba used to take all care of my foods whenever I was with them. Mamoni Ba used to make dresses for me also to wear in festivals like her own sisters and now when I see the practical world it becomes so very much special gesture that its hard to stop from crying. There are so many things to remember but it’s not possible to capture each and every memory in paper. But it’s nice to relive those memories again and again. Three of us have other precious friends in our lives also but the things which we share are always so special. The main appeal is the original and natural belongingness I feel with them. The feel of confidence is awesome which goes a long way in life. This friendship makes me feel rooted and worth living in this world. The knowledge that whatever one does, whether wrong or right but there is some one (in my case two) in this world who stood always alongside makes world more colorful.
We grew up together and now all three of us are working. Sonali and Rupali, both are teachers in Govt Schools and they presently stay in Dibrugarh. This time, life and days are so different. Now we can’t wake up whole night to catch up with all the things though we talk a lot over phone. But those were the days we spent together when we were quite unaware that we had been creating golden memories for life time. We talk about every possible smallest things from our past and laugh a lot when we meet and make the nights tired with our gossips ! Long live our friendship may be even after we die...! One special prayer to God…….Please bless me with one blessing that I should die before my friends so that I do not miss them as I cant think about life without them. Thank you Sonali and Rupali, for being with me through the sun and rain of life.
