Goodnight Moon--a Forever Classic!
Good Night Moon is a true and timeless classic children's book!
Every one of my children have this book by Margaret Wise Brown-- even I have my own 30 year old copy that I will not lend to anyone!
This book has been read so much in my family that we know it by heart--but we pretend that we don't. Every time this classic comes off the shelf to be read, great big smiles spread across the faces of the children who are looking at it. Even the 10 year old loves to read this book again and again.
There is something so comforting about telling objects in the room "Good Night". Maybe it is the fact that we know that the comb and the brush, the bowl full of mush, etc.... will be there forever. Maybe it is the fact that the mouse, tiny as he or she is, shows no sadness about the end of the day approaching. That mouse is AT HOME!
That great green room is so familiar and so common to us all. Even the pictures on the walls are from another book that we own--The Runaway Bunny--written by Ms. Brown. (Actually, The Runaway Bunny is my second favorite book!)
Most of all, the book is so much fun. My 4 year old grand-daughter cannot wait to see if the little mouse is in the same places as the last time we read this book together. Yes, it is the perfect book to read with someone!
What are the best words to use to describe Goodnight Moon? Comfy. Timeless. Classic. Forever. Never-changing.
It will always be on my shelf ready to read again and again.
I Adore Goodnight Moon
Every child should own these other classics by Margaret Wise Brown!
Both of these children's books are in my home library. The Runaway Bunny is illustrated by the same artist as Goodnight Moon. I love the first book the most as it is the one way I remind my children that I will love them always--not matter what they do to try to do to get away from their Mom. Sorry, but that is just the way it is for me.
The Golden Egg is a lovely illustrated big book. It is not thick, just tall and wide with lovely soft colors that is perfect for the springtime.
So, you adore Goodnight Moon? Then you must read this:
