I've Been There
I've been to other parts of the world
They like my accent
They say, "You're an American!"
"Yeah man, I'm from Texas"
That gets their attention
They ask me about Cowboys
"I'm not one but they're out there"
They say, "It's your drawl that affects us"
So I keep my cool and mostly listen
It's not my house you know
I'll give an opinion if they ask
But not one that's too religious
The believing in what's true
Is more about what's honest
And honesty is about yourself
I go there and not be pretentious
When I get back I think on it
Not to tell all my friends
But what changed in my world
Was I a tourist or fully conscious?
Everybody loves their own
But even families fight
It's not your right to judge them
They'll tell you you're not like us
That's not what I'm looking for
I'm just trying to learn
I'll admire their culture
I won't be malicious
Sonehow they got that way
Was it by their own hand or the weather?
We know it probably was a marauder
Whose personal morals were fictitious
So we live in a smaller world
Draining the water, paving the garden
Everyone is trying to get theirs
Blame is absent from their conscience
But you know it's nothing for me to say
What can I tell you about a trip?
That I witnessed the past up close?
I wonder more about God's judgments
