Shared Dreams

Shared Dreams

There are two times I have had shared dreams, but only one of them I remember in detail, so I will describe that one.

I was in college at the time, and I was sleeping in my dorm room next to my boyfriend Matt. I was laying next to him feeling softly awake in the dim city light coming from the big windows. I did not know that I had fallen asleep. Then, the room turned very dark. I was not sure why. Slowly, I lifted my head and saw that the door to my room was open And there was a very tall man standing there in the doorway, wearing a long trench coat and hat with a rim. The hallway light glowed so bright into my very dark room, that he was only a sillouette - just a shadow. There were absolutely no features I could make out on this black figure. Then he lifted his head or opened his eyes and they were glowing bright red!

I was so scared I jumped up out of bed! The next thing in the dream I remember, is I had chosen to go downstairs to the cafeteria to eat. I wanted to get away from my room and the man, and not be afraid. I was choosing some pizza when I noticed my boyfriend Matt in the soda machine line. I went in the back room and ate a little to wait for him but he didn't show up. I decided he must have gone back to his dorm room in another building, so I went to go find him. Right before I left the building, I stopped in a bathroom there. As I was going to the bathroom, I started hearing the scariest moans and cries I'd ever heard! Terrified, I heard things calling my name. Then, the seats and lids of the toilets started flapping up and down and overflowing with gunk. I was terrified it seemed like demons or ghosts. So I ran screaming out of the bathroom, calling Matt's name for help.

I ran outside of the building, trying to get to his building and find him in his room. Suddenly, a big white owl landed in front of me, and it had his face. He said something to me, I don't remember what, and I woke up.

Now, I was still sleeping softly next to him in the dim light of my room. The room was fairly well lit and not the pitch black of my dream. Matt also woke up, and I gasped out to him what I had dreamt. "I didn't think I was sleeping, I thought I was awake!" I said.

"The same thing happened to me," he said. "I had the same dream."

"What?" I demanded. So did you see the man in the doorway?"

"No," he said. "In my dream, the lights did not dim. I saw no man. You just suddenly got up and left. I went down to the cafeteria and I saw you in there, I was getting a soda. But then, I couldn't find you. I went back to my dorm room. And I was so worried. I felt like you were calling me, I thought you were in trouble. I was trying to find you."

"Oh good," I said - because it had really upset me in the dream that he had left me and I couldn't find him for safety.

We puzzled over it for a while. He did not remember appearing as an owl. I truly do not know what happened that evening. We definately seemed to have had a shared dream. I've thought about it since. Could it be possible I was sleep talking, and telling him my dream, and that implanted his own version of the dream in his head? Yes, that's very possible and is the only scientific explaination I have for it.

But - what if I wasn't sleep talking?
