Poem: Last Thoughts of an Old Man.

Updated on February 1, 2015
Reflecting on life.
Reflecting on life. | Source

She Was Loved Until The End.

When will I see you again. You smile as you turn and you say I love you and I know from your heart that these words are so true. I think of the days of so long ago, the sunshine the beachside the wonder of you. Some said I was foolish to ask you to dance, I knew you'd say yes and I thought of romance.

As time did pass our love it did grow, a family was ours and we loved them all so. Our children brought pride as they passed through life, one took a husband the other a wife. Our love did mellow as the years they went by, we smiled with contentment but sometimes a sigh.

You turn round again with those tears in your eyes, you look back and smile but I see your sighs. I'm now on a road I must travel alone, I lie under the grass, I lie under the stone - God bless you my darling.

A reflection on a life.

Graham, this is simply beautiful. I love the sentiment and the surprise of finding a poem hidden in the format. Just a real delight.

Hi mizjo. Thank you for your visit and welcome comments. The bad guys make the news, the women say men are 'all the same' but it is not true, not by a long way. Most women are loved by their partners, unfortunately men find it difficult to express love and emotions. I am so glad you liked this poem, thank you for your votes and sharing.

Oh Graham what a beautiful poem this is! The words seem deceptively simple, when in fact they reach deep down into our hearts and memories and breathe life into them! I did have tears in my eyes reading this, but for me it wasn't all sad, there is a great love in these words and that always transcends sadness!

Voted up beautiful, awesome +shared!! I absolutely love this!!

Just to say, I wish you and your loved ones a lovely Christmas and all the very best for the New Year - I look forward to reading more of your awesome work in 2013!

This was simply beautiful! i love the style you chose - it reads soooo smoothly - if not so sweetly!

Life is never easy, but, contentment is not the worst thing in the world, is it? I'd be happy to live with someone forever and wind up 'content' if not passionately in love...

      reality bites, eh?...lol
