All that pulls me back

The demons the horrors

As I look at the clock

It's all an illusion of a time before

Where things had rotted and pained to the core

Burying those times and forgetting the past

Will put me at ease and make me relax

If I don't let go they can drag me deeper

Into my death with the dark reaper

Through the dark clouds comes a beam of light

So bright but just a crack

That is my sight

It brings me hope so I can fight

Through the battle and I survive

Such joy lies ahead of me

In all different colors to see

Shooting through the sky like fireworks

Leaving behind a land of barren desert

What lies ahead is too great to see

Where things of fantasy lay to be

Dear Caroline ~ Best to let go of the past and not turn into a pillar of salty tears. Look forward, look ahead. Meditate on the present and all the blessings in your life now. Debby

@ Tom are you talking about Rafiki fron Lion KIng? lol. I totally agree with that statement. Thanks for reading and commenting.

@ Gmaoli Thanks for your comment. I have also dealt with leaving people behind that I thought were my friends. I totally agree that you need to leave the bad feelings that are existent in the past to move forward.

I've struggled with letting the past slip away because of this very feeling, especially when it came to having to leave behind people who I thought were my real friends. The past is always there and one can never erase it completely, but there comes a point in time where you have to avoid looking back so much because it just drags you down to the point where you can't feel like you're living for the wonderful moments of today. Thanks very much for sharing this great piece.

      The past is past

Now it's just in our mind

      these are now just memories

they are not hard to find.

      when about them we think

Some are painful, some are sweet

Some are cold some are warm

      and some bring the heat

      Your poem is great

      lets look to the future

for time and life go on

      the love we must nurture

.....sometimes it's hard to do - isn't it - let go of the past - and then sometimes when you get into the future you wish you were back in the past - lol - such is life - but as I always say - life goes on - no matter what so you either choose to go with it or get left behind - again, another provocative and soulful reading by you - I love when you probe and search in your writing - makes you the special person that you are - lake erie time ontario canada 3:09pm

A beautiful reminder that even when the shadows of the past haunt us, there is hope in the future. This is a perfect poem not just for the new year, but for the season - winter can be full of darkness but there's always the spring. Voted up and beautiful!

"Tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope." (Romans 5: 3, 4) Under President Sukarno the Indonesian motto of the day was "Always onward; never looking back." A false concept, for we need to learn from that past in order to fashion a better future from our present. Good thoughts.

Some of my past feels like someone else lived it for me in some ways. It is the one aspect of my life that gives it longevity...trying to remember what the past was about. If we choose to hold on to the saddness, anger, and frustration which we have encounted along the way, it will eventually consume us because each one of those memories requires a given level of energy to be exerted to keep them alive...life is worth more than that. Our mental files should be restricted to very special moments which bring us great joy and pleasure...let the rest go as you so aptly state in this verse. Thanks much..voted up. WB

My mother told me and I am sure it's true . That a hurry bird never builds a great nest .

It meant to read . Great Caroline. With these words I see and understand the message you are relaying and the direction you are heading.

      Burying the past ,

      no answer lies therein

      living in this present

      so let that quest begin.

      It will see you through.

      Bless.

Do the honors with the above.
