Sublime Rhyme Playtime

Updated on February 20, 2021

talk to a monkey?

I feel like a scientist, exploring my writers block in search of answers and one of my favorites was "talk to a monkey" explain what you are really trying to say to a stuffed animal or cardboard cutout...haha
aside from my speaking to inanimate objects, a behavior that might get me a first class ticket to a padded room...i got this great idea, an idea to get me out of this blockage, mostly consisting of nonsense poetry writing, but fun at the same time...
i got on this kick of words that rhyme with other words, and so on, you get the point
there are just some words that seem impossible to rhyme with, such as...Film, Orange, Month
Purple, Silver

now let's just say I'm having a rhyming nightmare...

they say there is a myth that only a handful of words have no rhymes...I don't believe that, certainly Dr. Seuss didn't either! So, I started simple:

What words rhyme with moon? Comment and let's see how many we can get...I made a funny and ridiculous poem from rhymes with moon and out...all in good fun

i look up and stare at the moon
i scream out
and become a dancing loon
without a doubt
and not a moment too soon
what is this about?
i know it's mid afternoon
and i give a pout
but then i see a red balloon
i let out a shout
it's only a baboon
with a tiny snout
and we sang a little tune
it was all about
an old greasy spoon
i was a little put out
but it was only twelve noon

impossible?

After my fit of writer's block had passed, I decided to look further into what words are difficult to rhyme and I came up with this list:

aitch
angry
angst
breadth
bulb
carpet
chimney
cusp
depth
eighth
else
exit
fiends
filched
filth
fifth
film
fluxed
glimpsed
gospel
golf
gulf
jinxed
leashed
liquid
mollusk
mouthed
month
mulcts
mulched
ninth
nostril
oblige
oomph
orange
pint
poem
pregnant
purple
puss
rhythm
scarce
sculpts
silver
sixth
spirit
tenth
tsetse
tuft
twelfth
width
window
wolf

I never realized there are so many words that are hard to rhyme with! But that leads into another topic for another day; why the English language is so screwy and almost impossible to completely figure out.

In the meantime, let's have some more fun...

What rhymes with impossible?
