The Moomins
Moomintroll, Moominmama, Moominpapa & Friends
My mother is from Finland, so I grew up reading stories from Moomin Valley about critters called the Moomins and all of their friends.
The Moomins are creations of author and illustrator Tove Jansson. The original versions were written in Swedish but have were translated into English. Moomins love nature and all her creatures. They possess a tolerant and open attitude toward life with a very strong desire for adventures.
The English versions were the ones I remember being fascinating by as a child. The Moomin characters really sparked my imagination and introduced me to fun and also a darker element to things in life. Some of the characters were a bit gloomy and melancholy, or loners but still lovable.
The Moomins are characters that I have introduced to my own children.
Thankfully the books are now much more easily available in the United States. When I was little we had to get them sent by relatives in Finland.

One of My All Time Favorite Children's Books
The Book about Moomin, Mymble and Little My
I remember reading this Book about Moomin, Mymble and Little My. My mom had one of the original version of the book which would probably be a collectible by now.
It was amazing with cut out images on the pages and bright vibrant colors that pull you through the story.
It looks like "The Book about Moomin, Mymble and Little My" is out of print again, only available from some sellers through Amazon. I am not sure why, because it is a really fun book for children.

History of this Moomins Lens (Webpage)
Inspiration for Squidoo Lens for the Moomins and Tove Janssen
When I was thinking about my favorite children's books for other lenses, I realized how much the Moomins had played a role in my early book memories.
When I searched Squidoo to see if anyone had done anything on the Moomins, the only lens that I discovered that mentioned Moomins was the Fresh Squid for the Day of October 10, 2007. (This was an older program to encourage lensmasters to make new lenses).
The rest as they say is history.
