There’s a New Kid in Town

Updated on August 19, 2020

So, what about this new kid, what’s she got to show?

Don’t know.

Where’s she from?

What’s she done?

They say she’s got a stone for a heart.

Takes no prisoners.

Well, I don’t think she’s so much!

No? Why not then?

I just don’t see …

SHHH – here she comes

“Hey. What’s the buzz? I see you all huddled over here looking and whispering like a bunch of worker bees. You waiting for your Queen? HA! Well here I am. You have all these questions, you think you want to know. All right then, have a seat kiddies and I’ll scratch your itch.

It don’t matter where I came from, what matters is that I’m here. You don’t know if you like me? Do I look like I need a friend?

I am every man’s dreams and every woman’s envy. I can out last, out talk, walk the walk and run circles around the lot of you before you can realize I took a step. If it’s been done, I did it, been said, it came from my mouth.

I don’t bleed, bruise or suffer. I get what I want and throw away more than you’ll ever have. I’m leaner and meaner, more clever and wiser than your little minds can comprehend.

I don’t bluff, I don’t run. I never cry and I never hurt. I can whip your tail and leave you bawling for your mama’s – all of you.

There’s only one thing I want from you and I want to know it now."

Uh…umm, well what’s that?

Where’s Kindergarten? I need to meet the teacher and get my desk assigned to me.

Ahhh, Epi, my friend you are always so gracious. I found this little's girl's picture while looking for some to put on one of my hubs and as I was telling SOH, above, I just had to write her a little story.

My friends know of my recent problems with the medication I take for Depression and my history so it was natural to assume I was writing of myself and my situation. I fear being funny and being depressed don't walk hand in hand as a persona and by writing of a personal history of sadness and troubles, I have boxed myself in to a category of writers.

...well there's a thin line between pathos and bathos - and although I thought the picture of the little girl with the 'ciggy' was a little off beat - in my commentary I always try to stay on the respectful side!

Normally it's hard for me to 'review' personal poetry or stories because my style of writing at epi's hubs is pure storytelling (of imagination and intrigue) and I very rarely personalize my writing even when using the first person pronoun. Sorry I missed the point behind it all - but it's like a good movie you didn't understand - you always get the chance to watch it over again!

I feel this little girl's pain even through her toughness. She has to act tough to handle moving around so much. I didn't move around a lot as a kid but I can still relate to this little girl who pretended things were ok when they really weren't. God Bless you Pooh:)

...well I arrived at this hub by choice just to tell you how much I respect and admire you - you are a fighter, a survivor, a testament to human resilience with plenty of free spirit, poetic panache, verve, and nerve - have I said it all - lol - gee let's hope not - I will save some more accolades for next time!

Hey Randy - an honor to see you here! I wish mine had, things might have been a little easier. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I've been reading your work since you started following me and you are an amazingly talented writer! Not a big news flash, but I wanted to add my opinion to all of your other fans!

That was a kick, loved the ending :) I think my "toughness" peeked in kindergarten.
