Poems about Waterfalls

Updated on October 17, 2014

Perceptions on Waterfalls Through Poetry

Driving home from an afternoon drive in the Colorado mountains, my husband pointed at an inconsequential waterfall flowing down the Canyon Wall at the side of the Highway. I got to thinking...

How lovely it is to note my impressions of waterfalls in my original poetic style. You'll also see waterfall books, waterfall calendars, waterfall posters and waterfall fountains for your home that make really great gifts. I hope you enjoy this hub.

A Torrent Rushes

A torrent rushes down the side

Of the mountain, tall, majestic

So downstream it will provide

For fauna, flora and domestic

The waterfall's a prism of hues

As hit by sunlight at all angles

Below it crashes, roils and spews

Brambles and brackens in tangles

Tall and slender like a bride's veil

Squat and random at the road's edge

Through the year, a constant detail

Or only a few weeks over a ledge

Years upon years a chasm is cut

As the river channels relentless

Tumultuous churning, carving ruts

Boulders washed; silt expressed

The power of the water, magnificent

Enough to turn the grand turbine

The grandeur, beauty to such extent

Can only be described as true divine

Spitting on the Rocks

Spitting on the rocks below

... A waterfall lets gravity take

The liquid torrent where it goes

... To populate the woodland lake

Meandering among the hills

... Now left, now right, a ribbon of teal

Trapped in eddies before it spills

.. Or drunk by fawns with thirst to heal

Soothing Sounds

The soothing sounds of water flowing

In a room where plants are growing

Assists with your quiet meditation

To enhance your mind's remediation

After the Long Fall

After the long fall

The water is crashing

I can't breathe

I'm turning over and over

Locked in this vertical eddy

Agitated with grit

The Mist

The mist about the waterfall

A moist aura so becoming

It nourishes the ferns and reeds

As part of our Earth's plumbing

The Swollen River

Swirling, roiling, foamy, white

The swollen river flows high in June

The raucous currents, torrents, fight

Against boundaries and debris strewn

Beautifully written. Some verse is so powerful that it seems that it can tear the heart right out of your chest. I love it.

I like these poems. The rhyme seems to emphasise the flowing nature of the waterfalls.
