Poem about Being Yourself
You can only be yourself,
No point imitating another -
You will only end up a phony.
Can't have someone else's body;
Another person's hair;
A different face -
You were born to be you
And they were born as they.
Inside our hearts
We all sing our own tunes,
Each one as special as the other.
Have the courage to be the real you,
Have the confidence to walk your own steps,
Be brave enough to wear your own skin.
You can't shine if you hide
Beneath a mask; a veneer -
Following the others just means
The real 'you' is lost.
You are the original,
An authentic, 'one-off' mould -
Don't be a cheap copy,
But relish in the truth.
When people look at you they would rather not
See their own selves, reflected back -
They hope to meet someone new.
We all learn from each other,
We all have different strengths
In the same way that we all
Have our weaknesses.
We are all on a journey of growth -
Even those who seem to have it all.
It's just a myth - perhaps they hide it well.
Inside, they are just the same as you
With the same fears
And the same dreams.
Don't be afraid to speak your own words,
If people choose not to hear
Then it's their loss.
Don't be a shadow
But shine forth, radiate,
With everything that you are.
The spark of the sun brings happiness,
You have the light in your heart
And as you shine, you warm people.
You can do it already,
You are good enough as you are.
Don't wish to be someone else,
Wasted moments can never come back.
Just live each day by being true -
True to your heart, true to your soul,
True to you.
