softly

Updated on July 30, 2013

You are gone and yet remain

beneath the search of anxious fingers

reading, learning, softly finding you

No longer here and yet you are

beneath my eyes, ever mapping you

waiting, quivering, softly shimmering

You have gone and yet remain

beneath a meeting, anticipating

kisses taking, giving, softly feeding

No longer here and yet you are

beneath the fire of heated whispers

panting, breathing, softly pleading

You are gone and yet remain

beneath the lunging, plunging cries

rising, sinking, softly dying

No longer here and yet you are

beneath the languishing, lingering scent

descending, mixing, softly blending

You are gone and yet remain

beneath the gasping, final vanishing

In you, beside you, softly with you

No longer here and yet you are

beneath remembered, secret interludes

reaping, sleeping, softly keeping.

How are you my friend. I hope the critters are better company than the landscape provides these days. Thanks for the comment.

One of the most raw and driven passions belonging to the human spirit is obviously, sexuality. This was an expression of that part of our lives. It was meant to move that experience, as impossible as it is, to paper. It is sensual, it is erotic, it is real.

OK, now I feel odd, having skimmed the comments (longing, nostalgic, beautiful, sweet lovely). Not a single one of those words come to mind. I think it is an incredible poem. And we are adults, you are married, I was married.

I don't find it to be sweet or lovely at all. I think it is fiercely and passionately sensual and erotic, without in the least being vulgar or inappropriate. Am I misreading the poem? Are all the other hubbers being polite or careful? Have I lived alone too long and so read too much into things? Have I missed the mark entirely?

Well, whichever is the case, it is an intensely moving poem. Very well done.

Thank you Victoria. My first attempt at epic poetry. I really enjoy it. You need a story to tell and I am not much at drumming up stories. An epic about nutrition and its impact on my dog and I isn't going to fly!

Thank you. Elaboration was further muffled by the delays in the visits showing up in the comment thread. sigh. Just glad it did! Perhaps it's a needed lesson in - patience. . . . I'm glad the message was transmitted intact!
