Summerfield is a romance novel set in a coffee shop. A young woman leaves New York City to open her coffee shop in a small town right next to a bookstore owned by a handsome stranger. This is chapter 1 of the rough draft.
Chapter 20: Part 1
It was finally starting to come together. Matt finished the sky scene on the ceiling of my building. It was beautiful and nearly dry. All the coffee I ordered came in. It was resting beside the coffee makers and in the pantry in the kitchen. The registers, additional coffee makers, and chalkboard menu were in place at the counter. There were a thousand tiny details that had to be taken care of in a few weeks, but I was sure everything would fall into place before opening day.
I already spoke with the people at the newspaper. They were going to put an ad in for two weeks before the grand opening. I designed and printed out flyers that my team and I would start handing out next week. I also started a Facebook page, twitter, and instagram; I already had a few hundred followers on each. Most of them were people I knew from college and relatives, but I didn’t care. I knew my following would grow once word of mouth spread throughout the area. “And that won’t take long with Mrs. Pinkerton and friends on the job,” I thought with a wry smile.
Josh brought over some books from his store for a small reading section. My plan was to put a sign next to it to refer customers over to his store. He said he would keep my business cards or coupons at his register to refer them back to my shop.
Chapter 20: Part 2
Lost in my swirling thoughts concerning everything I had to do, I didn’t notice Tony come in the door. “What is wrong, Bella?” He kissed my forehead lightly where my brow had been furrowed.
“There’s just too much on my mind. I see it coming together, but I can’t help being nervous before the grand opening.”
“Do not worry. It will be fine,” he smiled.
I sighed, “I know. I’m sure I’ll be fine once the opening is over.” I smiled a small smile back.
“I know,” he lifted one finger as if he had an idea, “I will make you a special cappuccino.”
He led me to a chair, pulled it out for me, and gently massaged my shoulders after I sat down.
“Thank you, Tony.”
“Do not thank me yet,” he smiled a wide, mischievous grin and rubbed his hands together, as if he was about to make me the best cappuccino in the world and then headed for the kitchen.
