The Confession by John Grisham

Updated on April 13, 2015

The Confession

Suspenseful Legal Thriller Makes a Wonderful Holiday Gift!

John Grisham's novels have a way of keeping a person on the edge of their seats, wondering what will happen next. This novel is no exception.

The Confession is a suspense story of an innocent man (Donté Drumm, a local football star), wrongfully convicted of rape and murder of a cheerleader. Spent nine years on death row and now his time was up.

The police didn't have a body. Drumm's conviction was based on circumstantial evidence. Needing someone to convict, Donté Drumm was beaten down by heavy interrogation and confessed to a crime he did not commit.

Travis Boyette spent half his life in prison with a long history of sexual assault. Registered as a sex offender in four states and just paroled from prison, Travis knew where her body was. He was the one who strangled the cheerleader with his own hands.

Boyette, living in a halfway house and an inoperable brain tumor, he wanted to make it right for Drumm. First he needed to convince lawyers, judges, and politicians that Donté Drumm is an innocent man with the execution only four days away.

"The Confession is the kind of grab-a-reader-by-the-shoulders suspense story that demands to be inhaled as quickly as possible. But it's also a superb work of social criticism in the literary troublemaker tradition of Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle....Brilliant"--Washington Post

"Grisham is the master of the legal thriller."--USA Today

“The secrets of Grisham’s success are no secret at all. There are two of them: his pacing, which ranges from fast to breakneck, and his Theme—little guy takes on big conspiracy with the little guy getting the win in the end.” —Time magazine

“The law, by its nature, creates drama, and a new Grisham promises us an inside look at the dirty machineries of process and power, with plenty of entertainment” —Los Angeles Times

“With every new book I appreciate John Grisham a little more, for his feisty critiques of the legal system, his compassion for the underdog, and his willingness to strike out in new directions.” —Entertainment Weekly

“John Grisham is about as good a storyteller as we’ve got in the United States these days.” —The New York Times Book Review

A Time to Kill and the Chamber are my favorites and he also wrote a nonfiction which is similar to this about a baseball player who got on death row for something he didn't do.

      Thumbs up

Very few authors that I like but John Grisham is one of them. The way he weaves us in and out of suspense is amazing. Definitely on the edge of the chair author.

This sounds great! I'm not overly into crime fiction but I do like Grisham. I have read The Chamber and a couple of others so would definitely read this.

I need to read this one! Has been so long since I've read a Grisham - mostly because I can't put them down and don't have that luxury of time to indulge on even a great book - so sad.
