you're fine just as you are

Updated on June 23, 2013

She runs through the back gate

Shouting she stamps her feet

It's not fair Daddy !

I want something to eat !

So I smile and I ask her

What's wrong ? what is unfair ?

Daddy I don't like glasses

And I want big blonde hair

Dinners almost ready

What is it ? I hear you say

Your favourite rice and chicken

Oh Dad we have that every day !

So why do you want blonde hair

All boys love eastern charms

She frowns and breathes a big sigh

Tightly crossing her arms

I want to have skin like yours

Daddy what is a chink ?'s a word for beautiful

By those who cannot think

But Daddy......

No buts baby, you're fine just as you are

As you grow up

Your looks alone

Will take you very far

I understand. My ex is Morrocan. My kids have darker skin and hair. Both of them, at different times, when they were young, asked why their skin wasn't lighter. The irony of that is how much damage I probably did to my skin trying to be dark like them!

      I loved your poem.

She is already beautiful on the outside; and you as her dad are reassuring her just how brilliant she is.

      Great pictures as well.

      Voted Awesome :)

Hi Simba73. I like this poem because a positive self image is so important in little girls these days. The media can really make it hard to feel pretty if you are the least bit different. Hearing positive things from your Dad can really make a child feel special. I am happy that your little girl has a dad like you.

Voted up. This was just delightful. You tell her that I said she is lovely and has a winning smile. Hugs to you both.

Aw, lovely poem. Dad's are so important in the self-esteem of their lovely daughters. She is beautiful just the way she is no doubt, and I am glad you are telling her so.

      Voted up ++++ and sharing

Hey, Jon! It's so good to see you again. I love this poem. It seems Savannah is already criticizing her femininity. You're right to tell her she's fine just the way she is. She's absolutely beautiful! However, you might want to shake up the chicken and rice a bit. Ha ha!
