Are You Dialed In To Current Color And Design Trends?
How important is it for you to stay current with color and design trends?
#1 - Bold, Bright and Beautiful - Start looking for brights to make a bold statement in every room!
While bold, bright colors have been popular for the last several years, due in part as an attempt to keep our sunny side up in the midst of a weak economy, brights are touted to make an even stronger impression in 2013. Even though the new brights will not quite reach the neon level, they will be seen in more and hotter ways than ever before.
The image, above, is actually an area rug and is a really good example of the hot, bright colors coming to the forefront in the design world.
Citrus-y orange, hot lime-green, tropical turquoise and molten magenta are all big players in the 2013 color trend forecast.
Pair this rug with neutral walls and furnishings for just a pop of color. For those more daring, use one of the colors from the rug to paint an accent wall and/or use one or more of these brights in side tables, lamps, or accessories .

#2- Art Deco Revisited - Soft, muted hues prevail
Clean lines, geometric shapes and grayed colors from the venerated Art Deco era of the 1920s and 1930s will find a renewed popularity in 2013, with updated palettes of familiar Art Deco colors, like dove gray, flat silver, soft lilac and green, all set against exotic woods such as macassar ebony, zebrawood, and the refined metals of bronze, brushed steel and nickel. These components are all relying on black to ground the rest of the color scheme.
This design trend features geometric lines (think New York's Chrysler Building), as well as soft, flowing curves.

#3 - Updated Americana - Made In America salutes the new red, white and blue!
A presidential election year always triggers a renewed interest in patriotic colors, but this year it goes beyond the norm. Regardless of the election outcome, the nostalgic Americana color scheme will spread globally by 2013. Colors included in this emerging trend include rustic versions of the big three: red, white and blue; look closely and you will also spot drops of school-bus yellow and grassy green added into the mix.
Furniture manufacturers are responding to customer requests for Made in America furniture and are sourcing more and more products within the US borders.
Although the entire Americana palette promises to be more prominent in home décor, the most visible element within the trend is sure to be denim blue. Expect to see upcycled jeans, used as an upholstery fabric, as seen above, incorporated in rugs, pillows and other decorative elements. This could be your perfect opportunity for a DIY home décor project using your stash of old blue jeans!
