April Herb of the Month: Lemongrass
April is the month of shedding the long winter months and emerging into the optimism of Spring. We begin to focus more on wellness as it relates to us and being outdoors, connecting with our natural world. It is the time of triumph of light over darkness. This beautiful time of emerging blossoms represents our perseverance over the challenges of winter. During this time, we also get a sense of love seeping through the pores of the earth. It is time for us to be in alignment with our healing guides and angels and to eliminate the bonds of those things that have restricted us.
Lemongrass is our chosen herb for the month of April. This wonderful-smelling herb helps to balance the nervous system. It calms and uplifts moods. Lemongrass is also commonly known as anti-inflammatory and its vapors assist with breathing difficulties (which is especially crucial during congestion). Lemongrass tea aides with improving digestion and supporting healthy cholesterol levels. It is a natural disinfectant, repels insects and detoxifies.
The magical uses of lemongrass includes repelling snakes and the enhancement of psychic powers. It also helps calm the temptation of lust. When taken as a tea, it helps lessen anxiety, stress and fevers. It can be used during meditation as an essential oil/vapor to help stimulate visions.
Growing lemongrass in one’s garden is a good way to repel critters who would otherwise cause distrustruction to plants.
