Beautiful Orchids from an Orchid Show

Updated on March 15, 2014

Orchids - A Lovely Exotic Flower Worth Getting to Know

I have to admit that I am still learning so much about orchids, even though I have loved them for a long time. What I have learned has taught me that I want to learn even more about them. They range from beautiful to strange and everything in between. Here I want to share some that I saw recently, and I hope you will see part of what I find so fascinating about them.

Orchid Show at the St. Louis Botanical Gardens in Missouri

This year people came far and wide to attend the yearly show, as they so often do. I was no exception! It is hard to know where to begin to share some of the lovely orchids shown at the show this year.

One thing of great interest to me, was that I saw more different kinds of orchids than I ever saw before. Starting a several years back, I began to have a true interest in orchids. Ever since, I have paid close attention to what I see, and especially so at these orchid shows. So that was why it was so interesting I had not seen some like I ever had before. It makes sense, as there are so many different varieties of orchids, however. I just thought I had seen most of the different types of orchids.

So here I share really a very small sampling of what was offered, and that I was able to get the names of. People love to seek out the orchids they love, and try their hand at growing them. The good news is, that they aren't really as hard to grow as once thought. So this is good news even if you don't have the greenest of thumbs out there. With some basic guidelines, you can grow your own and be rewarded with an amazing flower or two or more.

These orchids are like nature's art, to me. These all have such personality and beauty. I wish that I could share some of the fragrance that accompanied some of these.

This particular Orchid show is going on through the latter part of March, so there is still time to see it if you care to go. The theme is orchids of South America this year, though there are orchids from all over the world. The theme is more for the design of the show. It is very educational throughout as well, and the time they spend on decorating is evident when you look at the effect that is achieved. Very amazing and beautiful, I highly recommend going if you ever can. If not this year, perhaps another one in the future. It is well worth the planning for it.
