Mosquito control backyard reviews

There being over 3000 species of mosquitoes around; there is a call for preventative measures to take against them invading our backyard and the spread of malaria. Mosquitoes breed mostly during the warm weather. It is during this time of the season that the mosquito eggs hatch to an adult in a less than a week's time. Mosquitoes can be quite exasperating hence the need to take up measures to curb mosquitoes in out surrounding. Here below are some ways to ensure you get rid of mosquitoes in your backyard

  • Apt drainage. Mosquitoes thrive mostly in water inhabited areas. Whenever there is dormant water mosquitoes will easily find their way and breed in it. The best solution for this predicament is always to make sure that the water that is unused is properly drained to the sewer or the septic. For example, flower pots that do not drain water easily on after a rainy night must be tilted in a way that after the rains the water flows easily. Some people can prefer drilling holes on the sides of the pots. The trench drainage must never be clogged at any one time. Ensure that the collected water is always flowing towards the drainage system.
  • Garbage collection points. These areas must always be far the homestead and should always have lids to cover them. If you are dumping your garbage in plastic bags, it is advisable to tie the top with a string or something tight to prevent the fumes from the garbage attracting the mosquitoes. If the collection point is a dumpster ensure that it is always covered. Gutters should also be clog free.
  • If you own a swimming pool, it is prudent that the water should be treated on a habitual basis. The chlorine used in the treatment of the pool water helps keep mosquitoes at bay.
  • The backyard should be cleaned daily. Collecting of plastic bottles and materials that can hold water is the key priority. There are some plastic bottles that collect water after the rains they should be burned or taken for recycling.
  • Planting of Rosemary and Marigold in flower beds is also one of the best mosquito control for your yard. These plants are believed to produce a pungent odor that repels the mosquitoes. Chives are also is an excellent mosquito repellent. Planted outside can help the nuisance insect out of your way
  • This may sound witty but keeping toads in your garden is also a way of ousting mosquitoes in your back yard. These animals are known to feast on the larvae and the mosquitoes themselves. Bats are also vastly known for eating the mosquitoes. You can have them live on the homestead but not in your house.
  • The lawn around the yard should be kept short. Mosquitoes thrive in the long wet sluggish grass.
  • Spraying of vanilla scented repellers is also advisable to help to get rid of mosquitoes in your backyard.
  • Fabric softener mixed with soap detergent can also be sprayed around the yard.
