Colored Fluorescent Lights: Save Money and Have Some Fun!

I have recently changed all my light bulbs to fluorescent ones and have noticed a nice change in my electricity bill, plus I feel good about helping the environment by using fluorescent. I have just discovered the joy of colored fluorescent bulbs. Thank goodness for the Internet, because I found a site that has them, which I've put at the end of this article. Anyway, back to the fun of colored lights!

I have a little sun room that has a pink floral couch in it and other pink items. I found a pink fluorescent bulb and put it into one of my lamps out there. The soft pink glow at night is so pretty and makes the whole room look inviting. If you're like me, you are stressed to the max. I like things that help me relax and color is one way to help me achieve this. The pink is very calming and I find I can totally unwind in that room.

I have a corner cabinet that has a fluorescent tube light in it. They make colored sleeves, or guards, that you can put on tubes, so I got a blue one and used it on the cabinet. That nice glow in the corner is not only relaxing to look at, but it adds to the whole room. I have added other colors to corner lamps in various rooms and it's amazing the effect it has. It not only enhances my mood, but makes the room more interesting.

I have an orange one in the fixture outside my front door for Halloween. I have used black lights for this and painted pumpkins with black light paints. The kids love it! At Christmas, I put a green one outside my door and have also used green for a St. Patrick's Day party. It just adds to the holiday and is fun. One of the great things about fluorescent lights is that they last so much longer than incandescent bulbs. I normally use a yellow, or bug bulb as they are sometimes called, outside my front door. I use to have to change it quite often, but the one I have out there now, that is fluorescent, has been there almost a year and is still going strong.

When you consider that you are saving money, helping the environment, adding an interesting twist to the rooms of your house, helping your mood, and having fun with just one bulb, that's a deal in my book! Try one out and see what happens. You'll be amazed at all the benefits and effects.
