Who Doesn't Like Coffee?

Who doesn’t like coffee? But it’s a safe bet that the occasional acid tummy ache and bitter taste isn’t gathering reviews with the caffeine crowd. That’s probably why cold brew coffee has taken off — the coffee made this way is smoother and sweeter and less likely to offend the stomach. But making it at home doesn’t seem to have taken off though, and that’s probably due to people not really understanding the cold brew process, much less having the means to make it. Or maybe it’s because cold brew can take many hours to make (10-12 hours not being an uncommon amount of time for traditional cold brew methods) and who has the time or patience for that? So its a trip to a coffee shop, right? Not any more.. Because Cusianart’s Automatic Cold Brew Coffee Maker takes the pain out of wanting cold brew and getting it.

Slow Brew No More

It’s just a fact that the cold brew process isn’t as fast as instant coffee or even a drip coffee maker. It takes time and it used to take effort — Cuisinart has removed the effort. And since the process is foreign to most, lets cover the process in as simple a way as possible.

Heat is verboten to cold brew, as cold water is what it used. So this means that a lot of time must be devoted to letting the cold water saturate and “pull out” the coffee flavor. The water takes its time to extract all the flavor and this can be quite the slow process. As in10+ hours (don’t worry, the Cuisinart can go from start to finish in as little as 25 minutes). So how does Cusinart speed this up and make it accessible and viable for the home user? By introducing a spin technology that circulates the coffee through the water so as to “pull” out the flavor more quickly. And remember, no heat is involved.

Doing The Brew

So you add ground coffee to the coffee filter basket either as it is in position or, having taken it out, adding and then returning the basket to in place. After filling the water tank to the desired level with cold water, Then put the 7 cup glass carafe, with its remodeled stainless steel lid down, plug the coffee maker into a wall outlet, set the desired strength and press the BREW button. Now cultivate patience or better yet, go brush your teeth or take care of those bills that have been piling up. When done, release the carafe using the embedded lever and wait as the coffee maker finishes a few more workings. Now take that carafe and pour a cup or three. Should there be any coffee left, the carafe can be safely stored in the fridge for up to two weeks. And yes the carafe and all removable parts can go into the dishwasher should you find hand-washing undesirable.

Also, there's a coffee release lever to make taking out the carafe a safer and more sedate process (a boon for those impatient folks who find even waiting the small amount of time this cold brew coffee maker takes unbearable).

The above process has been streamlined a bit, because the strength of the brew can be varied from mild to medium to bold (obviously the stronger you want the final coffee to be, the more time it will take -- up to 45 minutes at the bold setting). Also the clear brewing chamber shows off the proceedings while a set of beeps lets you know hen the brew cycle is complete and also when all the coffee has been released into the carafe.

It's Time To Drink Cold Brew

Drinking cold brew coffee might seem uncommon and even a bit odd for coffee drinkers -- isn't coffee only supposed to be hot? But drinking "out of the box" and trying cold brew could lead to happier and more enjoyable coffee drinking. So for those who like/prefer cold brew will find the Cusina7rt Automatic Cold Brew Coffee Maker not just a time saver, but a valued and invaluable part of their home. Coffee drinkers are serious folks, after all.The retail is $99.95.
