Redesign a Room

It is a wonderful feeling to walk into a living room and have it make you feel comfortable, happy and relaxed. This happens when the colors, textures, and decorative elements all come together creating a pleasing atmosphere. This is easy to do, once you have a plan for completion.

If your living room is lacking the ambiance you crave, then it is time to do something about it. With a few hours of work, time to look for the items you need, and a minimal amount of money, redesigning your living room to your liking can become a reality in just a couple of days.

Begin by creating a plan and determining the colors and elements you want to introduce into your living room. Choose a theme to guide you, so that the décor of the room will flow. Shop around for the best prices and things that you absolutely love. Put it all together and enjoy!

Paint the Room

It is a well known fact that painting a room is one of the most least expensive ways to make an immediate impact on a room. Color can make a huge impression on the way a room makes you feel and it can pull together all the elements of a room as well. Before choosing a new color for your living room walls, sit in the room and observe a few things:

  • Are the walls currently too dark or too bright? Is there much natural light coming into the room that will reflect off of the walls?
  • What colors already exist in the room (pillows, furniture, wall hangings)? Which of these colors do you wish to keep, and which colors do you want to add?
  • Which colors make you feel relaxed and happy? Do these colors already exist in the room?

Choose a Theme

Themes can be very specific or very general. What do you want to accomplish? Do you want your living room to make you feel like you are at the beach? Or do you just want the room to simply have a modern flare? It is all up to you, but choosing a theme will help you make the room work as a whole when adding design elements. It will also make the task easier when choosing items to place in your room.

Add Decorative Elements to the Room

There are many different elements that can be added to a room to create a whole new feeling.

Small items such as pillows, candles, and throws can add bursts of color to a room. They also create an inviting and cozy atmosphere.

Larger objects such as rugs, ottomans, and end tables can fill in spaces and be functional at the same time. These items can be focal points or can blend in, depending on their size and color.

If your have chosen a theme, be sure your design elements all work together. For instance, if you have chosen a nature theme, choose decorative elements that depict nature in some way. Use natural materials to bring the room together.
