Garden Gargoyles

Updated on May 7, 2012

You don't have to be all Goth to like gargoyles, and you don't need a creepy garden to have a few hanging round in it (though, to be fair, it would probably feel more at home in one). I live in a very Gothic looking European city and these sorts of things are all around in the architecture. But you don't need to live in a city like mine to see gargoyles, you can buy one or two for yourself and stick them round the yard or in the garden. I've always found most gargoyles a bit creepy (I blame this on the film Ghostbusters, which scared the wee out of me as a kid) but there are some available that are less so, if that's something that appeals to you. Have a look at the following Gothic gargoyle statues for the garden and see if something suits.

Gothic Euro Gargoyle Statue

I put this guy first because he's my favorite gargoyle statue. He looks like a proper gargoyle but doesn't look too creepy. The statue is cast in resin and then has an aged and weathered greystone finish. It weighs about 6 pounds and measures 10 inches wide x 10 inches long and stands 10.5 inches high. You could stick him just about anywhere, really, it needn't be in your garden -- but he'd certainly look good in it!

Concrete Gargoyle Statue

If I'm honest, this gargoyle creeps me out. But if you're into gargoyles, you'd probably find him loverly. He's 11 inches tall and made of cast concrete, not resin. There are 5 colors available, and the statue will darken naturally with age because they are all custom made at the time of ordering so your gargoyle will be color stained at the time. This model is said to be resistant to frost so you could keep him in the garden year round. This company offers other gargoyles made in the same manner with multiple color options.

See, Hear, Speak No Evil Gargoyle

Ok, so this is a cute gargoyle group, right? See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. They are made of weather resistant resin and the statue weighs less than 5 pounds. If you'd rather not have them in the garden, you could even display this gargoyle statue in your home or maybe even in your office.

Winged Gargoyle w/ Chain

I feel a little bad for this gargoyle because he's chained up, but maybe he's less dangerous that way. This gargoyle is made from resin and has a greenish finish. It's made in the UK and weighs less than 3 pounds so you could always keep him indoors if you'd rather not stick him in the garden. Like I said, he's got that chain so he'll be safe round the kids. *grin*

Boden Gargoyle Sentinel

Now this gargoyle statue is probably the coolest on the list because it's so well-made. It stands 2 feet tall, is made of high quality designer resin and weighs 17 pounds. If you'd rather he not be in the garden, he can stand guard at your front door. He's definitely intimidating! This gargoyle statue is 15.5 inches wide, 10 inches in diameter, and 24 inches tall. He's pretty big and absolutely stunning.
