Cynthia enjoys filling her home with wonderful fragrant aromas. She loves testing new candles, and wax melts and sharing her opinions.

Little did I know when I made this purchase it would be one of the worst ones. A least favorite fragrance out of all the scents I have ever tried. I give these 2 of 5 possible stars. That's a low score for any scent. I will not be buying these again, and need to figure out what to do with the remaining cubes I won't be using.

My purchase of Better Homes & Gardens Limited Edition Pink Guava Hibiscus Scented wax cubes was initially with my husband in mind. He likes a wide variety of fragrance and enjoys when I change things up a bit. I am more partial to bakery and spice scents. Not that I dislike other aroma's those are my top two favorites. Better Homes & Gardens wax cubes run about $2 if you find the desired fragrance in stock at your local Walmart. If they are out of stock you can expect to pay upwards of $5 or more for the same fragrance online. Especially when a fragrance is limited edition. Stores tend to have or get less stock and they do usually sell out fast.

With Spring arriving I was looking to change things up a bit. Looking to get out of my comfort zone of my usual home fragrance items. I purchased Limited Edition Pink Guava Hibiscus Scented wax cubes and a few other new and limited editions out this year to test. The 2018 limited edition is what sold me on this clam-shell of wax melts. Of course, that is the point of the entire marketing strategy of putting 'limited edition' on anything right? I mean what if we love it and they run out! I did not waste much time testing this fragrance out in my wax warmer. Especially since my husband was not home, and wanted him to be greeted with a fresh new aroma when he got home.

Clam-shell and Packing

I do not want to know how much we spend on home fragrances each year. I am sure it is more than I would want to admit. Though I have never tried Starbucks, so hey maybe that is the trade off. I enjoy wonderful scents wafting through our home. A lot of people do not realize all clam-shells are not the same. A clam-shell is the basic packaging or most wax melts, not all but most. Standard size is usually a 6-cube clam-shell, that will weight around 2.5 to 3 ounces in weight. Wax melts do come in larger clam-shell packaging in some locations and online. Though I do notice fragrance selection is often limited in the larger options.

Pink Guava Hibiscus Scented wax cubes came in the standard 6-cube clam-shell for wax melts. I like to see a tight seal to a clams-shell. While they are not taped or sealed closed you want to meet a little resistance when opening them. These wax cubes were very pungent. I could smell them on the entire trip home. Despite the quality of the clam-shell being great and a nice seal when closed.

The labeling appeared fresh with no scuffs or marks. Sometimes on wax melts in store you can see some scratches and less desirable appearance to labels. This usually means that the stock is rather older. Or has been shuffled around the store shelves for a while. I tend to avoid any less than desirable looking packaging and clam-shells. It indicates older stock. Any wax product will lose fragrance over time while being stored or sitting on the shelves. Dust is another good indicator that a clam-shell is older stock.Older stock fragrance will be less pungent that a fresh wax product.

I enjoy a lot of artisan handmade wax and wax products. Many will go the extra mile and give you a production date. And also a use on date. Us on dates are to allow curing. Curing is time prior to use for to allow for optimum fragrance and scent throw. You find a use on date usually with popular artisan products. Meaning they sell enough that their shipments go out prior to curing in a facility. Better Homes & Gardens Limited Edition Pink Guava Hibiscus Scented wax cubes appeared to be fresh stock. There was nothing to indicate that they had been sitting on the shelf for any length of time.

Visual Impressions

I always note the look of the wax to any clam-shell of wax cubes and even candles. You can tell a lot from the look and appearance of a wax product. Pink Guava Hibiscus Scented wax cubes have a very smooth well mixed appearance. The wax is a bright pink and was evenly mixed for a consistent color throughout.
Breakage was nice and even when opening to snap off a cube for my warmer. I also noted there was not much flaking. Flaking happens sometimes when you break some wax cubes. Depending on the particular blend of wax used. I have found that less flaking usually means a superior quality to the wax melts.
An added bonus is when you can snap off a wax cube without breaking apart all if the cubes. This clam-shell has a clean snap or break apart that keeps the unused melts in a solid cube. So far everything was on point as far as aesthetics, and the appearance of a quality wax product.

Pink Guava Hibiscus Scent

I did not hint on the scent notes before now. Other than mentioning the pungent aroma that filled my vehicle while this was in the back. I am not a fan of this limited edition fragrance. I was getting a slight bit nauseated on the drive home from the store. Overpowering was an understatement as I made my way to the house.
At first I thought this was because it was a small space and it was cold outside that day so I was driving with the windows up. So I tossed a cube in my wax warmer to see if that was the case. I went about my chores as usual around the house and waited for my husband to get home to see what his thoughts were.

Once he arrived home, he was greeted with a fragrant aroma and promptly asked me 'What the heck is that smell?'. After telling him that it was Pink Guava Hibiscus Scent a new limited edition wax melt he replied with 'It smells like a gas station bathroom'.

I cannot think of a better description. If you ever stopped at a rest area or gas station that takes sanitation to a whole new level with that weird air-freshener. That sickeningly sweet cherry like smell that smacks you in the face with it's overwhelming pungent nature. No doubt to cover up the undesirable aroma's left behind from weary travelers. If you know that smell then you know what this smells like.

Needless to say having your home smell like a public bathroom is less than desirable. We promptly emptied and cleaned the wax warmers. It was a tad disappointing that my trying to get something new that my husband would enjoy was a fail. Thankfully I grabbed several new wax items to try so hopefully he will like a few of them.

Final Rating 2 of 5 Stars

Sadly Better Homes & Gardens Limited Edition Pink Guava Hibiscus Scented wax cubes was a bust for this fragrance loving lady. The quality of the wax and packaging is amazing. The fragrance leaves so much to be desired. I couldn't give it more than a 2 star rating out of a possible 5 stars.

Quality and appearance being on point. But the pungent bathroom air-freshener aroma that resides in this wax is awful. The scent notes are overpowering, it took us opening the windows to get it cleared out. It is an extremely high concentration of fragrance. Normally something I love in a product, this one not so much.

Not saying that someone out there may not love this particular scent. For us it just was not anything we would possibly want to continue to use. So now I have to figure out what to do with the remaining 4 cubes. Normally I would try mixing and creating my own blends by using a cube from two different scents. There just seems to me that there is nothing that is going to over power this fragrance.
Bottom like this is not a fragrance I would recommend at all. This is not a limited edition that I would rush out to by more of either. The fragrance does not seem well thought out at all just overpowering and unpleasant.
