How to Wash Pillows -- Here Is a Quick Guide
Washing pillows can be a bit tricky. They can be damaged easily if you are not careful. So how do you safely wash pillows? Here are some proven tips for you.
Check the Care Label
Almost all pillows can be machine washed safely. However, it is still best to check the care label to be sure. The manufacturer will tell you how to properly clean them. Closely follow the instructions in order to avoid damaging the pillows.
Washing Instructions
There are different types of pillows in the market. Some are filled with foam while others are made from polyester, down, or cotton. You have to know the content of your pillows because some materials have different washing requirements.
Foam Pillows
Foam pillows should be hand washed. You have to use mild liquid detergent to minimize the accumulation of soap residues in the foam. These pillows need to be air dried because foam will crumble if you put it in a machine dryer.

Down or Polyester Pillows
Meanwhile, pillows made from down or polyester can be tossed safely in your washing machine. Again, you have to use mild detergent soap and set the machine to gentle cycle for about three minutes. After the wash cycle, you have to rinse the pillows twice to completely remove suds and residues.
Machine Spinner
You can safely dry polyester or down pillows in a machine spinner. Set the spinner to low and toss two to three clean tennis balls inside. The tennis balls can help fluff the pillows and minimize clumping. Make sure that they are completely dry before you use them because moisture promotes the growth of molds and bad odor.
If you wash pillows properly, you will be able to enjoy them for a long time. Most importantly, clean pillows are good for your health and you can sleep soundly at night if they smell really nice.
