How to decorate your home with antiques and vintage furniture on a budget

The words, vintage and antique generally come with a hefty price tag. It doesn't really matter what your taste is when it comes to decorating your home, most people don't attempt to start such a project because it could be quite costly and involved.

I personally enjoy decorating and putting odd pieces together to create one big masterpiece. I never cared much for vintage or antique furniture but in recent years I've grown to appreciate the excellent workmanship and quality in these old pieces. I frequently visit local estate sales in Orange County which offer a wide variety of items from mid-century furniture to early 1900 statues, and everything in between, although I've often found modern and art deco style furniture and accessories.

A recent purchase that struck my entire remodel was a beautiful Persian rug I picked up at a Huntington Beach consignment store that offers a wide variety of cool hard to find items. I brought that area rug home and it kicked off the remodel of my living space. If you frequent estate sales and local consignment shops, you can also wait for great deals; try to go on the last day of an estate sale where discounts of up to 50% are offered. You can easily pick up a new antique piece of furniture for a few hundred dollars.

My living room area had quite a boring look of just brown and beige. Putting together a few colorful pieces and unique colorful hand woven rugs has added much pizazz to my small oasis. Although area rugs protect our floors and keep us warm, they tend to add a lot of style to an area. A few unique colorful paintings and lots of colorful pillows, create a cozy and inviting space.

I decorated my living room with unique antique rugs, vintage statues and unique throws and linens and it didn't cost me a lot. I am fortunate to live in an area that has plenty of sales throughout the year. Orange County Estate sales are a weekly event, if you don't live in an area that holds many estate sales, there are many websites offering you to buy estate antiques online, it's obviously not the same as touching and feeling the item, but it's also a way to grab great items for a great price.

Remember, it's not how much you spend on the item that matters, it's how much you enjoy it with your family on a daily basis. It might cost you a little to decorate your home but the enjoyment you get is priceless and with estate sale purchases, you can do it on a budget and it doesn't have to cost you a lot of time and money.
