Susie Lehto loves the decorative stepping stones of the Apostle Islands and hopes to visit there again some year.

Garden Pathways

History can change its mind. Before this structure was built it was supposed to be constructed on another site. Instead the Old Michigan Island Lighthouse was set to shine its light on Michigan Island. This garden pathway stepping stone with the creative inlay stained glass image was however, laid in the gardens of the Northern Great Lakes Visitors Center leading up to the entrance.

Nautical Stepping Stones

When I saw the Apostle Islands Lighthouse stepping stones I thought they were a lovely decorative accent for the entry gardens at the Northern Great Lakes Visitors Center, located a few miles to the east of Ashland, Wisconsin. They are a nautical invitation to wet the appetites of people who are traveling to visit the Apostle Islands.

The colorful photos of the The Apostle Islands Lighthouse Stepping Stones are delightful images to share with viewers and readers.

Devil's Island Light in Rock Garden

Devil's Light lighthouse is on Devil's Island and the beautifully depicted garden stone in tones on blues, greens and whites is a stunning garden accent piece.

I like how it has been displayed in a colorful rock garden. I grew up where there are some of the most ancient exposed rocks on earth, so naturally rock gardens are a favorite of mine.

Sand Island Light in Lake Superior

A light keeper was nominated, and Sand Light was lit on the day of September 25, 1881. It is a brick house building that is 26 x 30 feet, and the tower is 44 feet in height. I would love to be able to spend some quality time in this dwelling, I mean live there for a length of time.

It is a beautiful stepping stone that adorns a wood mulch garden pathway.

The Most Beautiful Stepping Stone

Outer Island Light Stepping Stone

Outer Island Light Lighthouse stepping stone photo was a also taken as it is displayed at the Northern Great Lakes Visitors Center. It is a colorful accent in the garden to welcome guests who come to the visitors center that serves the tri-states of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. The bright orange trim, white and brick colors are contrasted well with greenery on the stone background. I love the US Flag waving in the breeze and white birds flying in the air. I like this one best!

Round Stepping Stone For Garden Decor

Spoontiques Lighthouse and Moon Stepping Stone
Spoontiques Lighthouse and Moon Stepping Stone

A moonlight night with the black and white stripped lighthouse to guide the boats and ships that sail by. I love the twinkling stars and different colors in the sky, and the red base of the house with foliage in the foreground. Its a lovely and colorful accent for nautical home and garden decor. Its pretty how it has a rope frame that sets off the image with the nautical theme as well. Love this!

It amazes me that the lighthouse structures are able to endure the storms of the seas, oceans, and great lakes. Just think of the amazing man power put into building these massive towers.

If I ever get to the ocean, I do want to go visit some of the great land marks that shine their lights for traveler upon the waves of the seas.

Apostle Islands National Lakeshore

The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore consists of 21 of 22 Islands with only Madeline Island not part of the National Lakeshore, although, Big Bay Park on that island is protected. Many come to the islands to see the old nautical lighthouses that cast their shining lights on Lake Superior in Wisconsin. There are a total of 6 lighthouses in this island group. That is a lot of lighthouses to see in one area, and each of them is on the National Register of Historic Places to see. Bring a camera if you plan to visit, because I am grateful that I did just that.

Wisconsin's Apostle Islands Video

Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center

All of the stones at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center, (which serves Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan) is a grand structure and is inland east of Ashland, WI. The entry area along the pillars has changed since this video was made and the garden space was extended and the bench is no longer there. Bushes, mulch, rocks and the stepping stones have been added on either side of the walkway. They certainly do add eye appeal and attract attention.

Spoontiques Creates A Vast Array of Colorful Yard Ornaments

Spoontiques Lighthouse Stepping Stone

I think a nautical stepping stone is a lovely garden accent for around home or cabin down by the seashore or by the Great Lakes. But, maritime decor is great for everyone who loves this decorative theme.

Most people I have talked to have visited a lighthouse or two in their life-time, or at least enjoyed pictures and movies with some well known lights. Creating a nautical garden theme would be delightful, but it is a great idea for the home or office too. They have a breezy but safe harbor feel.

I am so glad that I found some decorative stepping stones for the patio, home or garden to feature on my Web-page. They can be used as wall plaques in the home, or as decorative stepping stones for outdoor pathways or as nautical garden stepping stones by the seashore. There is something stately about a stone to step on, but I would not except for being barefoot.

I did inquire about the artist who created the Apostle Islands Lighthouse stepping stones and found out that she had gone to eternity. All of the available concrete stones with stained glass were sold out almost immediately and can only be found in private collections. They are one of the local treasures in the Lake Superior area.

I was happy to learn that her creations are well cared for by caretakers at the visitor's center and are kept indoors during the harsh winter months to help preserve the stones.

Nancy Jerabek of Bayfield, WI was an artist best known for her beautiful works of stained glass and her stepping stones. Her lighthouse stepping stones were sold exclusively at Keeper of the Light in Bayfield and were sold out in 2008, shortly after her own light went out.

A welcome sight it would be to see this lovely carved stone that is made out of genuine stone. It just might be too nice to keep outside, because it would serve well as a welcome sign indoors or on a patio. I would most likely want to display it in my nautical themed bathroom.

Hi Au fait. The stepping stones are brought indoors in late fall, and no one ever walks on the stones, they are only on display in gardens. Just too nice to not take good care of. Thank you for visiting!

Definitely a place to visit and a great getaway from North Texas where it is brutally hot in the summer. Great photos and very interesting tiles. I really wonder how they keep those tiles in good shape and prevent fading and wear. Sharing this excellent article!

These are so eye catching...I enjoyed them the first time around and had to come back. My daughter made me a wall hanging of lighthouse out of mosaic tiles...so I am thinking of making some wall hangings using some of these lighthouses.

      Thanks for the inspiration Colorfulone.
