Orchid Show of 2012 - Flora of China
Orchid Show at Missouri Botanical Gardens - 2012
Going to an orchid show is a sheer delight. Many people truly enjoy seeing these exotic flowers when in bloom and on full display. They are like little works of art from nature herself and I thoroughly enjoy viewing them whenever I can.
One of the nice things about these orchid shows is that you get to see so many different orchids in a variety of colors. They have small orchids and larger orchids, some that smell nice, and some that don't smell at all. I even saw a ghost orchid this time at the show. There is always something new to learn about orchids.
The orchid show I went to this year had a theme as always, and this one was called Flora of China. There is always a theme, and last years was the Maya, or Mayan theme. This year you they had many Chinese lanterns and garden statues and different decorations on display. Look at the video below to see more details, and also at the photos I provide here.
I am definitely still a student when it comes to orchids. However, every time I go I do learn more, and attending an orchid show whenever you can will be one of the best ways to learn more about orchids.
At these shows, most all orchids if not all, are labeled so that you know what kind of orchid it is, and its various names. There will often be little placards that show more details about the orchids or the theme of the show, like Flora of China. Walking around and taking your time is a great way to take it all in.
If you are not a member at the garden where you go to see an orchid show, and they offer membership, do consider becoming a member for the deals it provides. Depending on how many people are in your party, you can often save a lot of money on your orchid show tickets. You may want to take the time to drive back even if it is a little distance, say if you have family or friends coming to visit even if for another event or time of the year.
I show some of the photos I captured the other week, and I hope you enjoy them. If you are able, it is highly recommended that you go to an orchid show in your own area. It is worthwhile and a fresh new glimpse into nature that will leave you with a wonderful feeling of appreciation for the outdoors. If you need to see one of the smaller pictures to the sides, try clicking on them to make them a bit larger.
This amazing orchid show continues to be on public display for at least a whole other month from now. It runs in its totality from January 28 through March 25, 2012. The hours are 9am through 5pm, and the location is 4344 Shaw Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63110. Their phone number is (314) 577-5100. I hope that you will get a chance to visit if you are able.
