Make Money Cleaning Homes

Updated on July 15, 2013

Starting Out

When I first started researching a home based business that I could start with a low start up capital I wrote down all the things that I loved to do, and cleaning my home was on the top of the list. I wanted to make some extra money for bills etc... I did not have very much money to start with, so I began with a prayer and some sheer determination. Getting started seemed pretty easy, all I had to do was think of a business name, get a license, and supplies so I thought.

Here is where things got a little tricky at first. After obtaining business license I headed out to the local store to buy some supplies, things I thought I needed to successfully clean a home. Basic supplies will do when you are starting out :

  • Windex
  • 409 All purpose cleaner
  • Furniture polish
  • Mop
  • Broom
  • Vacuum cleaner (or you can use your own if you don't have money yet to buy one)
  • scrub pads
  • oven cleaner
  • rags
  • Pinsol

Getting Clients

Now you have your supplies, your business license, the next step is to obtain some clients so that you can make money. This part can be very tricky and you can get frustrated in the beginning. I suggest putting ads in the newspaper, online ads, fliers, and have a website will get your phone ringing. Always remember to invest some of your money you make into marketing your home cleaning service.

Have you ever considered starting a house cleaning service?
