What Are The Least Expensive Tools To Clear A Drain

There are different plumbing snakes for different applications. Sometimes you can get by very inexpensively with something like the Drano Snake Plus Kit and other times depending on where the clog is you might need to rent or buy a plumbing snake tool or call a plumber.

Plumbing Snakes To Unclog A Sink Drain From The least Expensive To The Most Expensive

Start With The Least Expensive Tool First!

Before you spend a lot of money on expensive plumbing snakes, try Drano Snake Plus, pictured above.

Pros of Drano Snake Plus :

  • Includes an 18 inch plastic snake/auger
  • It is inexpensive
  • It works quickly
  • It is easy to use
  • It's convenient
  • It's accessible and easy to find in the stores like Walmart and Target and hardware stores

  • The snake is only 18 inches long
  • If there is a deep clog a longer snake machine will be needed
  • It will not work if there is a clog outside of the house

Very Often The Term Snake And An Auger Are Used Interchangablely

When Toolgirl and I were filming this segment she used the term auger along with a snake. Sometimes sending a coil to the clog will work if you just need to get down and loosen things up.

You Can Also Use An Auger To Clear A Clog

The Next Three Pictures Are Of Three Types Of Drain Snakes

The Differences in the snakes vary in the power of the motor, length of the metal cord and the diameter of the cord.

The first two snakes can be used inside the home to clear drains and the Third would be used outside and usually used by professionals

If That doesn't Work Try The Hand Held Snake Drill

The Hand Held Drill Has a Longer Snake And It is Easy To Manuver

Pros: Hand Held Snake Drill

  • Easy to handle
  • not too expensive
  • Fifty foot cord

  • The snake machine may not have a long enough cord
  • Get Plenty of towels cause it can get messy

If The Clog Is Still There Then Go For A Snake that Has Attachments

Pros: Of a medium sized Snake some of the popular brands are Gorlitz or Ridgid or Cobra

  • The snake may be long enough to reach the clog
  • The machine can still be used inside the house
  • Easy to use
  • 75 foot cord

  • It is expensive
  • It may not be powerful enough if there is a clog outside

If All Else Fails Try The Large Snake

One of the Larger Snakes Is Pictured Above And Is So Powerful That It Is Should Only Used Outside

Pros: Large Snake And The Popular Brands are Like Cobra or Ridgid or Gorlitz

  • Will reach Long distances outside around a 100 ft coil
  • It is very powerful and usually can break up any clog

  • It is very expensive
  • It is probably better to hire a plumber for serious clogs
