Spring is coming, Get out your hoe-a poem
Get out your hoe!
Spring is coming, just around the corner
My mind wonders “ what shall I do?”
Dig up the ground, add in the mulch
Perhaps start a compost pile or two
Spring is almost here, I haven’t done a thing
I wonder what crop my procrastination will bring’
“You foolish girl” a voice whispers in my head
“If you sit and do nothing you’ll have weeds instead”
Spring has arrived, the sun is shining upon the ground
Daffodils are peaking their little heads to look around
Some things take care of themselves if we allow
Others won’t live without us stepping up now
So I put on my gloves, reach for the shovel
Grab up the rake and the hoe
I’m wearing my old gardening hat on my head
I’ll make the hard ground become a straight row
I can hardly wait to see the green beans arise
Cantaloupes and eggplant a bountiful surprise
This year the new fruit I just have to try
The big square watermelons and berries for a pie
Spring is here and I want you to know
I’m waiting to hear about the food you will grow
As we challenge each other to be farmers as of old
We must not be afraid to step out and be bold
If you hear of something that sounds delicious
Please share the word so we can add it to our dishes!
Tell me what you are doing!
Are you a gardner?
