What is the best way to clean lime and calcium stains in shower stall?

Updated on December 12, 2010

The cheapest and best way to clean lime scale stains in a shower stall is to use distilled white vinegar. Dilute 1 part of white vinegar to 5 parts of water. This will make a solution you can clean shower tiles with.

Of course, the next step is to soak some toilet paper / paper towels in the mixture, and wrap it round the shower head. You can tie it on with string, or an elastic band. After half an hour, take it off and rinse clean with water.

This method of cleaning is an old, tried and tested recipe.

Of course, you don’t need to limit yourself in the bathroom! The same mixture with a little salt added will clean tiles, and a weaker mixture will clean stainless steel like it was brand new. Only, make sure you don’t use it on plated metal – since it will take it off. Use a commercial cleaner for silver plate.

You can also use a small amount of white vinegar as a conditioner, in the washing machine or dish washer, to remove lime scale.

And it is cheap.
