Colorful Hydrangea Blossoms

Updated on February 28, 2018

Hydrangeas are so Lovely!

Beautiful, Colorful Hydrangeas

Colorful Hydrangea Blossoms adorn our yard with various shades of blue, purple, pink and white. It is hard for me to look at a Hydrangea Blossom and not smile. The beauty that God has created with these Hydrangea Bushes brings joy to many. I know that we sure enjoy them.Hope you enjoy these Hydrangea Pictures taken around our yard. I am not sure about the names of our Hydrangeas but maybe you can help me. Just let me know what you think the various varieties are that we have in our yard.Photo Credit: The Hydrangea Photos on this page are by Nancy Hellams aka OhMe and not to be copied.

Big Daddy Hydrangea

The Big Daddy Hydrangea has Blue Blossoms in Acid Soil - and Pink Blossoms in Alkaline Soils

Big Blue Hydrangea Blossoms

The Big Daddy variety of Hydrangea is fast growing and often used in landscaping but can also be seen in pots as young plants. This particular plant of ours is being taken over by our very large Limelight Hydrangea and I hope we don't loose it. We lost a very old and large Big Daddy Hydrangea several years ago because it was taken over by our Camellias.

Did you know that Aluminum sulfate will change a neutral soil to an acid one. We have never added any and enjoy being surprised by the color the blossoms become. It would be fun to experiment with the soil, though.

Endless Summer Hydrangea

Our Endless Summer Hydrangea - one of the Mophead Hydrangeas

I am almost positive that this is an Endless Summer Hydrangea but not 100%. It does bloom early and is very hardy. It is close to the house and has so many various shades of pink, purple and blue all on the same plant.

Blue Lace Cap Hydrangea

Delicate Blossoms of the Blue Lace Cap Hydrangea - A Gift from our daughter

Blue Lace Hydrangea
Blue Lace Hydrangea

I really love our Blue Lace Cap Hydrangea and it has grown so much in the last couple of years. The many blossoms are so very unusual and a beautiful shade of blue. They are light and airy looking. I noticed that a limb had actually rooted in the ground so I will have another one of these coming along. That is always a nice surprise when that happens. I have held limbs to the ground by placing a brick on it but this one just did it naturally.

I think it would be wonderful to be able to make an arrangement all year round out of Hydrangeas but guess that would not be possible.

Limelight Hydrangea

The Limelight Hydrangea blooms later and is so different and beautiful. They are also gorgeous dried and used in arrangements. I hope you will visit my separate page about this wonderful Hydrangea.I've been told that my little critter friend is a Carolina Anole.

Beautiful Hydrangeas. I enjoy them very much there flowers last a long time.

Did you know that they are poisonous to animals, we had many young lambs lost to eating this plant on the fence line before we discovered what was killing them. Removed the shrubs never lost any more lambs after that.

I couldn't pick a "favorite," because I love them all. In my young years in the state I lived in, Hydrangeas were seen everywhere. I loved them then and now, but don't get to see them anymore living where I do now. I think it's neat that their colors can be changed by the type of soil. Excellent article, voted up, I really enjoyed it and the gorgeous photos. Thanks for sharing.

You know I have been planning for years to buy these lovely blue flowers in the Spring and plant them in the garden. That's what my mother-in-law did one year and they were stunning.

I received a beautiful hydrangea for Christmas, but it's not looking good. I planted it in the garden and will hope for the best after my mulching spree next week. My grandmother always had lovely flowering hydrangea bushes in her garden.

I'm not sure of the names but they sound good to me. We are fortunate to be able to grow Hydraneas in our area too. We have a beautiful pink one, "Big Daddy and also the Limelight. They seem to like a certain area of our garden. I had to move our pink one to that area .. it almost died but is doing nicely since the move. You multi-colored one is very lovely and I like what you did with the video.

I love seeing the various colors of your hydrangeas. The one I remember when I was growing up was very pale pink or purple. I can't remember which, but the blooms were large.

I love the flowers and what you've done here. I have a blue one but somehow it is slowly dying.. is it because it is under direct sunlight most of the day??

Well, I answered the poll even though I couldn't click all choices. Hydrangeas always make me feel good. They were plentiful while growing up and always gave me a sense of awe and a feeling of peace. The surrounding area where hydrangeas grew was made more idyllic by their presence. Or perhaps because of their presence.

When Carlyn was little, we had a Hydrangea bush in the front yard. I wish I could show you the photos I took of her but she has her baby book. She was about 18 months old standing in the front yard holding a huge blossom with a beautiful smile. The next shot you see the petals on the ground all around her and she is holding the empty stem with her nose wrinkled and her lips pursed out! She loved that bush but she also loved dismantling the flowers! LOL I have always loved them!! Great Lens!

Loved all the beautiful hydrangeas. We have one in our back yard. When we got home from beach all the blossoms were dried...I thought I had lost it but I watered it good and it now looks beautiful again. I want an Endless Summer but they are all beautiful. Thank you Nancy for all the good info.
