Curious George Wall Art & Bedroom Ideas

Updated on August 13, 2013

It's Curious George! Decorating Ideas for Your Little Monkey

Decorating in the Curious George theme doesn't take much in the way of decorations. With their high-contrast design these affordable, yet sunny-yellow wall art pieces include fun wall decals and posters for easy hanging and instant enjoyment. And I'll show you how to incorporate this cute little monkey in your child's bedroom for a fun space he or she will love to call their own.

Don't stop at the walls though, as Curious George rugs can help define your space and warm up your little one's bedroom while providing a comfy-cozy place for reading his first Curious George book ~ to you!

A little background on Master Curious George: he's been an international favorite since 1939 and in 2003, he's graced the White House's fireplace as part of its Christmas decor. Who knew?

Indeed, few characters stand the test of time and it's no surprise that Curious George themed vintage decorations are prized collectibles.

Using Posters to Decorate

Curious George Wall Art

Deciding on the Curious George theme is a wise one for the smallest, little ones, as it's one that will last well into kindergarten. The bright colors in this movie poster proffer high contrast against white, green or blue wall paint.

I always advise bright~colored wall art where you're not able to choose wall color or don't want to repaint white walls. The poster here is visually stimulating and will take the eye away from bland walls with its sunny yellow background and colorful subject.

This 11" X 17" poster is available as~is or may be framed in several available frame finishes. You can opt for the frame or buy your own at a big box craft store. Either way, I recommend framing the poster versus taping it to the wall. Posters tend to curl and tear at the strangest places. Trust me on this one; I often wondered what my twins were doing while my eye was somewhere else!

Hanging Your Wall Art

Curious George Poster

This 11" X 17" Curious George movie poster has the same features in vibrant blue hues that will pair up really well with the poster above.

When hanging wall art, consider the size of your wall, as you'll want your art work to be the main attraction wherever you place it.

If you plan to hang this piece alone, I suggest choosing a narrow wall where the picture has minimal space remaining on either side; you don't want the art to get 'lost' in a sea of wall area defeating any decorative efforts.

Mix and match colors as you go and you won't obligate yourself to any one or two colors. Kid love color, so don't hold back!

This Curious George movie poster is super large but it can be hung right along with your smaller art work. I suggest drawing your art pieces out on paper using rectangles to represent each poster or print; it doesn't have to be to scale, just draw one rectangle bigger than the other to represent the differences in sizes as you go along.

Using Large Wall Art

Giant-Size Curious George Wall Decal/Sticker

Incorporating large wall art such as this Curious George wall decal/sticker is an easy way to make a large dent in your overall decor palette. Large art's size alone make bigger impact than several smaller pieces in an arrangement.

I like to limit the use of smaller art pieces to narrow walls or areas above small furniture such a night stands, where there's limited space and the artwork will command most of the wall space.

A single, larger element in a room is cleaner and neater looking where too many little frames might look cluttered if they're not appropriately placed. It's important to steer clear of the busy look ~ especially for little ones who have trouble winding down for a nap or night time slumber.

Accent rugs are great for adding comfort, warmth and color to your Curious George themed bedroom. I recommend using these conservative-sized rugs for smaller bedrooms with hard flooring. I used two in my twin's bedroom at the side of each bed. The rugs made a nice cushion underfoot for each child and seemed to act as divider for each child's 'territory.' What a more pleasant way to wake up in the morning versus hitting cold, hard floors.

Curious George Pottery Barn Bedding - by eBay

While perusing the web looking for Curious George blankets, accessories and other bedding, I realized this little monkey is literally elusive where decor is concerned. Pottery Barn apparently holds the biggest investment in Curious George decorations for kids' rooms and it''s quite expensive. I did find these bedding and decorative prices on eBay at more reasonable prices. Be sure you keep your bidding in check by not getting caught up in the excitement. Just bid your reasonably best once.

I made the mistake of paying too much for an item; it's hard to enjoy the piece knowing I paid way too much for it.

Curious George Blankets - Offered on eBay

My twins loved their blankets (we called them "blankies;" I know, that sounds silly but blankets were serious business at our house).

As I've mentioned, Curious George blankets are a hard find,, so it's a good idea to act when you see a 'must-have' on eBay. Remember my safety rule to bid once so you're not over spending.
